The upcoming Icons set for Star Wars Unlimited has remained slightly mysterious ever since it was announced. However, Star Wars Unlimited publisher Fantasy Flight revealed some new details on the set and its product range recently. So let’s take a look at what we now know about Star Wars Unlimited: Icons 2027 Edition.
What’s Different About Star Wars Unlimited: Icons Booster Packs?
One of the best things about Star Wars Unlimited is how cleverly designed the booster packs are, to ensure that players can immediately play draft format games with just three packs each. That changes with the Icons set, which are cheaper and contain just 9 cards. Additionally, they are not guaranteed to contain a Leader and a Base card, as is the case with standard Star Wars Unlimited boosters.
Instead, they are comprised of:
- 3 Common cards
- 1 card which has a 25% chance of being a Leader, and a 75% chance of being a further Common card
- 1 further Common card guaranteed to be a Hyperspace variant
- 2 Uncommon cards, with an unspecified chance of being Hyperspace, Rare or Legendary
- 1 Rare or Legendary card
- 1 Hyperspace Foil card (any rarity)
Icons booster packs will also be available as a multipack of 4 in a cardboard sleeve. These packs also contain an exclusive, alternate art variant of Cassian Andor, Blending In.
The cards in the Icons set are reprints of previously available cards, though some may feature new artwork. They’re all cards which don’t have special mechanics (except those present in all Star Wars Unlimited sets). Furthermore, the vast majority of the cards have simple rules text and abilities, to ensure a smooth, easy to understand learning process for new and returning players.
What Pre-Constructed Decks Will Be Available For Icons?
As Icons is being created as a lower cost, more accessible point of entry for Star Wars Unlimited, it makes sense that it will also have a starter set which will help new players learn the game. The Icons Starter Box set is broadly similar to Intro Battle: Hoth, featuring Darth Vader and Leia Organa as Leaders, introducing players to the gameplay of Star Wars Unlimited with a scripted experience, adding cards to their decks as they play more. The box also contains two full Icons booster packs, to be opened once they’ve learned all of the basics.
The main difference between the Icons Starter Box and Intro Battle: Hoth is the power level of the cards. Icons cards are comparable in power to those found in a normal set. Comparatively, Intro Battle: Hoth was designed to focus entirely on learning, with the power level and complexity of the cards reduced from those found in standard sets.
When Will Star Wars Unlimited: Icons 2027 Edition Be Released?
Though no fixed date has yet been set, Icons 2027 Edition will be released close to holiday season in 2026. The reason for the 2027 date on the set is that it’ll be on sale for a short amount of time in 2026, and will be sold throughout 2027!
