On Thursday, February 27th, also known widely as Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company announced a returning feature for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This feature, a series of Mega-Evolved Pokémon, originally debuted during the sixth generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon X & Y. It also recurred in the seventh generation with Pokémon Sun & Moon. The Pokémon Company also revealed two Mega Evolved cards during the announcement of the Mega Evolution Series!

According to the announcement by The Pokémon Company:

Mega Lucario ex is a Stage 1 Pokémon, but its 340 HP puts its durability on par with Stage 2 Pokémon ex that have appeared up until now. Its Aura Jab attack does 130 damage while allowing you to attach up to 3 Basic Fighting Energy cards from your discard pile to your Benched Pokémon in any way you like, and its Mega Brave attack can do a whopping 270 damage for just [two Fighting Energy]! Mega Lucario ex can quickly support the development of other Pokémon or take the lead all on its own.

Of course, there is a downside to these very powerful Pokémon TCG cards. They each yield three Prizes upon becoming Knocked Out. This is a heavy risk but very rewarding if you can outmaneuver your opponent.

The second Mega-Evolved Pokémon announced is Mega Gardevoir ex:

The Pokémon Company describes Mega Gardevoir ex as an Energy factory of sorts. They go on to explain the following about this Psychic-type powerhouse:

This Stage 2 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex boasts HP higher than any Pokémon ex revealed up until now, and its psychic power is just as impressive. Mega Gardevoir ex’s Overflowing Wishes attack lets you attach a Basic Psychic Energy card from your deck to each of your Benched Pokémon, immediately flooding the board with Energy. Follow that up with its Mega Symphonia attack—which does 50 damage for each Psychic Energy attached to all your Pokémon—and you’ll be doing massive damage.

The other relevant detail to these cards shown above is that they’re still undergoing development. As such, they may not be finalized with the version to be released with the Mega Evolution Series. There could still be some minor tweaks to these cards.
