The world’s first Trading Card Game (or TCG, also known as a Collectible Card Game, or CCG) was Magic: The Gathering. Released in 1993, the system it used for players to bring cards into play, of different Mana colors with corresponding Land cards, has remained pretty influential to this day. Though the League of Legends TCG, Riftbound, doesn’t use an identical system, its resource cards, Runes, do have a color scheme that feels broadly similar. So let’s take a look at the Rune colors in Riftbound!

The red colored Rune in Riftbound is the Fury Rune. As you may expect, cards using Fury Runes tend to be powerful, with high strength and damage based effects.

Body Runes are orange, and these cards seem to be good at accelerating the drawing of Runes from your Rune deck, as well as dealing damage directly to units.

The yellow Order Rune is all about manipulating units; bringing them into play, either from the deck or as tokens, as well as manipulating units by damaging, exhausting or moving them.

Countering spells and dealing damage to units directly seems to be the Calm Rune’s specialty. It seems that the green Calm Rune-powered cards are generally fairly low cost too.

The Mind Rune cards we’ve seen seem to utilize card draw quite a bit; along with that, some of these blue Rune cards are also able to adjust the strength values of different units in play.

Chaos Runes live up to their name, with some truly unpredictable effects; moving units, returning units to their owner’s hands and even damaging your own units are what you’ll find on cards using these purple Runes!

That covers all of the Rune colors in Riftbound. Want to check out more on this excellent, League of Legends-based TCG? Take a look at our list of the cards in the first Riftbound set, Origins.
