One Piece Card Game Card Back Colors Explained

One Piece Card Game backs, showing each of the colors: red, white and blue

Due to the nature of being able to use any card ever released when building a deck (at least in casual, rather than tournament, play), for the most part in any trading card game (or TCG), the backs of each card in the game will be identical; this will be the case no matter how long the game has been in existence. Though Pokémon has had the same card design in the West since launch, there are exceptions, and its Japanese version has gone through a few changes, as you can see in our list of Pokémon card backs. A major exception is UniVersus; the game’s card back design has changed several times, as well as the name of the game itself (previously being known as the Universal Fighting System). While the One Piece Card Game’s cards have the same logo on each card, there are several different colors of card back in the game. Let’s take a look at each one!

Red Card Backs

Cards with red backs in the One Piece Card Game are Leader cards, arguably the single most important card you will have in your deck. Each deck in One Piece has one Leader card, and this is kept separate from other cards, always face up and in play. As well as having its own special abilities, keywords, and Power level, the color of a Leader card determines what cards can be used in any given deck too; for more information on that, check out our guide to all colors in the One Piece Card Game.

White Card Backs

The cards with white backs in the One Piece Card Game are DON!! cards; these are used as a resource to pay to bring other cards into play, as well as helping to boost the Power levels of Leaders and other Characters. Though DON!! cards can have different designs on their front, they all perform exactly the same function, and each player will have access to 10 DON!! cards, in their own separate deck, over the course of the game.

Each turn, two DON!! cards are drawn and placed in the cost area; they’re “rested” (turned sideways) when being used to pay for other cards to be played, or attached directly to cards in order to use each DON!! card’s +1000 Power level boost (which only applies on the active player’s current turn). Blue Card Backs

Every other type of card in the One Piece Card Game has a blue back. That’s because all other cards will form part of your main draw deck in the game. Cards with blue backs can be Characters, Events, and Stages, all of which are brought into play using DON!! cards to pay their cost, which is noted in the top left of each card. Players will have 50 cards in their main draw deck, and these will need to match with the Leader card’s color (or colors; some Leaders have two!).
