Card Gamer’s Favorite Standalone Card Game of 2024: Flip 7

Flip 7 card game

2024 has come and gone, so it’s time for us here at Card Gamer to share with you our favorite card games of the year. We’ve already covered the best new TCG and best new digital card game, so we’re capping it all off with our best new standalone card game. While the number of new standalone games goes far beyond anything we’d have the time to play, we’ve still played a lot of games, and one in particular stands out. And that’s Flip 7.

What Is Flip 7?

Flip 7 is what you get if you take Blackjack and inject it with a huge dose of fun. This party game, published by The OP Games, claims to be “The greatest card game of all time.” While I wouldn’t go that far, I will say that it has quickly become one of my favorite games to play in groups with gamers and non-gamers alike. The rules are simple, gameplay is easy, and, most importantly, it’s an absolute blast to play. I recently had a large group of people over for New Year’s Eve and the ten of us played the game twice; everyone loved it.

Flip 7 Action Cards

To play Flip 7, you deal out one card to each player, then in turn order each player will decide to hit or stay. If a player hits, they get dealt another card. If any player is dealt a number card they already have (numbers range from 0 to 12), they bust and get no points for the round. A round ends when all players have either stayed or busted, at which point all players who didn’t bust will add up their points. You’ll then move on to the next round and play again, continuing rounds until one or more players has a total of 200 or more points from all rounds. At the end of that round, the player with the most points wins. Special actions cards (shown above) can be used to help yourself or to stop other players in their tracks, while modifier cards add more points to your score.

The press-your-luck Blackjack aspect of Flip 7 makes this game incredibly addictive. But unlike Blackjack, you won’t lose any money – except for the $15 or so you spend to buy the game. And at that price, it’s an absolute steal. Check out our full review here, and keep an eye out for more new card game reviews from your friends at Card Gamer.
