Star Wars Unlimited Set 3: Twilight Of The Republic Details Revealed

The relentless pace of releases for trading card games can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers to the hobby, but Fantasy Flight are taking things a little more slowly for their breakout hit, Star Wars Unlimited. Though the game’s second set, Shadows of the Galaxy, has been out for just a few weeks at this point, it might feel as if things are moving at a pace equivalent to a speeder bike on Endor, but even though we now have some insight into the third set, Twilight of the Republic, it’s not actually due until November 2024.

So what do we know about Star Wars Unlimited: Twilight of the Republic so far? Well, this far out from release, details are usually scarce on new trading card game (or TCG) sets, but Fantasy Flight have been quite open in terms of information revealed for this third Star Wars Unlimited set.

What’s New In Twilight Of The Republic?

We know, for example, that the set focuses on The Clone Wars era, following on from Spark of Rebellion‘s original trilogy setting and the backdrop of Shadows of the Galaxy, which was post-Return of the Jedi, featuring the scum and villainy of the universe, heavily focusing on The Mandalorian’s settings and characters.

We also know that Twilight of the Republic will have two new keywords and, perhaps most excitingly, an entirely new type of card: Token Units, which we’ve pictured above; these will enter play using new card abilities. The new keywords are: Coordinate and Exploit, and these are sure to shake up the Star Wars Unlimited meta once more.

We’ve also got a glimpse at the new Leader cards that will head up the Twilight of the Republic Starter set. Though Ahsoka Tano’s presence in the Star Wars universe spans multiple eras, given that Twilight of the Republic has a Clone Wars setting, it makes sense that it’s the younger, Padawan version of Ahsoka that we get here. Ahsoka’s card also features the new Coordinate keyword, which gives her a +2 Power bonus if you have 3 or more units in play. General Grievous, on the other hand, has a more familiar keyword: Sentinel, which draws enemy fire and stops bases, or indeed other units, being attacked in the same arena while it’s in play.

When Will Twilight Of The Republic Be Released?

We don’t have a firm, final date for the release of Twilight of the Republic yet, but we do know that it’ll be launching in November, 2024; you can check out the known list of cards for the set here. In the meantime, check out our Star Wars Unlimited review, along with our review of the Shadows of the Galaxy Starter set, so you can see what all the fuss is about with this TCG. Though it’s not the first Star Wars TCG (check out our history of Star Wars card games for more details), it’s certainly the most accessible and exciting Star Wars trading card game to have emerged for a very long time!
