10 Best Wildfrost Tips For Beginners

Wildfrost is finally here, and it’s as cute as anticipated. But there’s one slight catch: it’s really hard. If you’re struggling to defeat your enemies, my 10 best Wildfrost beginner tips will help.

In this game, there’s nowhere to hide – if your enemy has the Barrage or Aimless ability, you’ll find yourself back in Snowdwell in minutes flat. Maybe even seconds.

With no option to change difficulty (at least for now), it can feel like you’re fighting a never-ending losing battle. Trust me, I’ve been where you are. And while it can be frustrating, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Ready to reach that light? Then let’s learn these 10 best Wildfrost beginner tips before we turn into icicles.

10. Ring The Redraw Bell

I know ringing the Redraw Bell before it’s charged will result in you losing your turn, but there are benefits to that – you can access better cards much faster.

Getting to the best cards quickly might not matter too much in the early battles, but as you progress, basic moves like Scrappy Sword just won’t cut it.

9. Remember The Enemy Countdown

Enemies attack in waves, which gives you the opportunity to crush your opponents before another army hits.

But if you’re going to get your timing just right, you need to keep an eye on the Enemy Countdown on the right hand side of the screen. This is a simple tip, but it’s also an important one.

8. Save The Naked Gnome

Looks, and card descriptions, can be deceiving; while the Naked Gnome apparently does “absolutely nothing”, he can prove to be a strong ally.

Avoiding hitting him can be tricky, though, which is why it’s important to move your cards around so that you strike the enemies you want to defeat first. It’s not a foolproof tactic, but it might just save a little gnome who likes the cool breeze on his skin…

7. Use Your Allies Early On

There’s some debate regarding when you should play your allies in Wildfrost, and while I can see the benefits of holding them back until you really need them, it’s a risky move that can spell disaster.

This is why you should use your allies as soon as the battle starts. Not only will they protect the Leader, but they’ll also deal some damage along the way.

6. Choose Your Allies Wisely

Given how much of Wildfrost is all about luck of the draw, I know it’s hard to get the cards you most want. However, while you can’t control which three allies you’ll be able to choose from, you can control which will be the most effective in battle.

Inspect their cards and look at their health, attack, and abilities – you want to create a deck that complements all the characters you meet, and, hopefully, enhances them too.

5. Inspect Cards

Remember how I just said to inspect those cards? Remember that in every battle. Scouting the enemy before they start attacking can make or break a fight, as I’ve learnt the hard way.

If you notice that an enemy gains attack points when hit, try to slow them down with snowballs, silence their attacks with ink, and/or eliminate them in one move. It’s not always easy, but that’s the Wildfrost way.

4. Move Cards Around

Where you place a card in the beginning isn’t where it needs to stay; by moving your cards around, you can monopolise efficiency so that it devastates your foes.

For example, if a Mini Boss/Boss positions itself on the top row and you’re on the bottom, move to the top row so that your attacks are likely to hit them before anyone else. Or if you have an ally that damages you every time they attack, make sure to place them on their own row.

3. Know When To Use Charms

Not all Wildfrost Charms are created equally. Although some can really spice up battle, like gaining Smackback, there’s others that can hinder more than they help. The key here is knowing when to use a Charm and when to save it.

If in doubt, don’t apply a Charm immediately. Wait until you’re about to enter battle, then open up your deck to inspect the Charm(s) you have. Don’t forget: Charms can’t be removed once in use.

2. Pets Are Important

Pets are a unique and adorable part of the Wildfrost experience, and while they are the cutest little creatures you’ll meet, they’re not just there to look good. They also offer specialist abilities and/or moves.

After you choose a new Leader (and you will have to choose more than one), you get to choose a Pet too. My advice: check the abilities you have against those of your pets, then select which one complements your skillset the best.

1. Heal Your Allies

As tempting as it might be to let your allies fall before you do, that’s a surefire way to get them injured. You want to avoid that as much as possible.

This is where healing your allies comes in handy. At any point during the battle, you can return a companion to your deck, which will heal them up ready for when they need to be called on again. It’s not always easy to do, but if you can save them it’s a wise strategy.

And that’s a wrap on my 10 best Wildfrost beginner tips! I hope you now feel confident enough to challenge even the most fierce enemies that come your way. If not, don’t panic because I can show you how to defeat The Snow Knight, Veiled Lady, and many others.
