New Trailer Launches for Upcoming UniVersus Critical Role Set, Heroes of Exandria

UniVersus Heroes of Exandria Key Art

Long running collectible card game UniVersus has had a very exciting 2024, with sets based on Attack on Titan, Cowboy Bebop, Godzilla, Tekken, Star Trek, and even live roleplay series Critical Role, among others, having launched throughout the year.

The Critical Role cards already released for UniVersus were two Challenger Series decks, each packaged with a Collector Booster featuring rare alternate art and foil cards.

Excitingly for Critical Role fans, especially as the series is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2025, the new set, named Heroes of Exandria, will be much bigger in scope, with a full booster set as well as two preconstructed Starter Decks.

The trailer for the Heroes of Exandria UniVersus set has just launched on YouTube, with images of the booster packs and Starter Decks featured, alongside brief looks at art and cards from the set:

What Do We Know About the Heroes of Exandria Booster Set?

UniVersus Vox Machina and Mighty Nein Challenger Series Decks

Publisher UVS Games have revealed that the set will feature more than 200 cards, with mechanics and synergies inspired by the worlds of Mighty Nein and Vox Machina (which, incidentally, were each covered in smaller scope in the 2024 Critical Role Challenger Series decks, pictured above). Of course, with UniVersus decks being built around characters, there’s numerous heroes from the Critical Role series to be found in the Heroes of Exandria set too – 20 in total!

We also know that alternate art and Chrome Rare cards will be in booster packs, though of course some of these cards will be harder to find than others; take a look at our guide to UniVersus card rarities for some more insight.

Interestingly, and this is something also hinted at in the trailer if you look closely, there will be boss fight challenges as part of the Heroes of Exandria set. How this is handled in-game, we still don’t know, but could this be a semi or fully cooperative UniVersus experience for the first time? We will, of course, bring you the news on any further developments we hear!

What Do We Know About the Heroes of Exandria Starter Decks?

One of the most intriguing details about the Heroes of Exandria Starter Decks is right there in the description; currently in UniVersus, preconstructed decks are known either as Clash Decks or Challenger Series, with the former intended for beginners, and the latter for more experienced players.

The two decks available will be the Percy and Beau decks, featuring Percival de Rolo and Beuregard Lionett as their main characters, respectively. Each are, like Clash Decks, designed to be easy to pick up and play, with learn-to-play references included. Given that we had some issues with learning UniVersus using the game’s previous best entry points, Clash Decks, hopefully these will be a friendlier way into the game for newcomers.

Due for launch in March 2025, Heroes of Exandria is shaping up to be a very exciting set, for Critical Role and UniVersus fans alike. As with all other UniVersus sets, pre-release events will be held in stores in the week prior to the official release, with a special promo card (shown in the image above) for taking part. If you’d like to get yourself one of these promo cards, and take part in this or other events, you can find your local stores which support UniVersus by using the game’s official store locator.
