Want a chance at nabbing that single worldwide copy of The One Ring? Let’s take a look at what’s inside the Lord of the Rings MTG Collector Booster Box!
The Lord of the Rings/Magic The Gathering (MTG) crossover – branded as a Universes Beyond set and subtitled Tales of Middle-Earth – looks set to be one of the most popular MTG sets for a very long time.
It has the potential to be the most popular and highly sought after MTG set of all time, overall.
Though MTG has been around since 1993 and has dabbled in crossover content before – with Wizards of the Coast stablemate Dungeons & Dragons, as well as franchises such as Warhammer 40,000 and Transformers – the impact of a Lord of the Rings crossover is likely to be far larger and much longer lasting.
A great deal of care and attention has gone into the design of the Lord of the Rings cards.
Though MTG has shown the same passion for and understanding of previous crossover properties it’s dealt with, none has created anywhere near the buzz that The One Ring has generated.
The set truly has the potential to become an absolute phenomenon, extending the audience and playerbase for MTG to help it thrive for the next thirty years.
With numerous products and booster types set to be available for the LOTR MTG set, we thought we’d take a closer look at what is sure to be the most highly sought after of them all – the Collector Booster Box.
So what can you expect to find inside one of these boxes?
Let’s find out, as we check out the Lord of the Rings MTG Collector Booster Box contents!

Each Collector Booster Pack in the Lord of the Rings MTG set contains 15 MTG cards, as well as a double sided Token card
What Makes The Collector Booster Packs Different To Other Lord Of The Rings MTG Booster Packs?
The key is in the name: these packs are truly for the collectors who want to build themselves an impressive collection of the shiniest, fanciest cards that’ll be the envy of your fellow players.
Not only can you expect to find a high proportion of shiny foil, alternative art and alternative frame art cards in Collector Boosters, but each pack will contain 5-7 cards of rarity level Rare or higher – meaning that you’re likely to find plenty of highly desirable, difficult to find cards in every single pack!
Of the cards included, between 8-10 per pack will have a shiny traditional foil treatment – so the cards themselves can be Rare or Mythic Rare and be foil treated too!
Is There Anything Else Included In The Lord Of The Rings MTG Collector Booster Box?
The short answer is: yes!
Alongside the 12 Collector Booster packs, you’ll also find a special ‘box topper’ card.
For the uninitiated, this is a special bonus card that are packaged in a sealed booster box as a bonus for buyers of the full box – they’re not usually found at the top of the box, hence the name ‘box topper’!
Each box topper card is one of 30 different ‘Realms and Relics’ cards – the Realms being Land cards, with the Relics being Artifacts.
Are There Other Ways To Get Realms and Relics Cards?
There are – and if you buy a Collector Booster Box, you’re giving yourself the best chance to get more of them.
Not only do you get one of these cards as a box topper, but there’s a possibility that you’ll find Realms and Relics in the Collector Booster packs too!
Is There A Chance Of Finding The One Ring In A Lord Of The Rings MTG Collector Booster Box?
There certainly is.
Though there are variants of The One Ring that are more commonplace – though still at Mythic Rare level in terms of rarity – out there somewhere is a single promotional version of The One Ring, a traditional foil card with text depicted in the Black Speech of Sauron.
The only way to even have a chance of finding this one of a kind card – again, we feel as if we must stress that there really is just one of these cards in the entire world – is by opening an English-language Collector Booster pack.
So by buying a Collector Booster Box, you give yourself 12 chances of finding the Precious itself!
What Other Versions Of The One Ring Are There?
In addition to the one-of-one version of The One Ring, there are three other variants.
There’s the main set version, the bundle alt-art promo version and the extended art version – all of which have the possibility of being found in Collector Booster packs!
Are Other Rings Available In Lord Of The Rings MTG Collector Booster Packs?
In addition to The One Ring, there are three Rings of Power that can be found in the Lord of the Rings MTG set.
These are the Dwarven, Elven and Human Sol Rings.
English language versions of these can be found in the Lord of the Rings MTG Commander Decks.
However, there are limited versions of these cards, using the Quenya language of the High Elves, which can be exclusively found in the Lord of the Rings MTG Collector Booster packs.
Not only are they exclusive to the Collector Booster packs, but they’re also limited in number overall too, with the following numbers of each variant available:
