Did you know that it’s possible to level up your character in UniVersus? Though you’ll need specific cards to do so, if you’re a fan of a certain popular anime series, it’s well worth the effort. So let’s check out how to level up in UniVersus!
Table of Contents
ToggleWhat Do You Need to Level Up in UniVersus?

First you’ll need a Solo Leveling Challenger Series deck; within that pack, you’ll find all of the cards required for you to Level Up your Character over the course of a UniVersus game. The Character card, Sung Jinwoo, begins the game with the Assassin Skill Tree card, as you can see from the text on the card shown below.

Jinwoo’s card also states that he has a Response ability, further clarified to be Tenacious (meaning that Jinwoo can use the ability even when committed, or rotated 90 degrees due to a card effect or player action). This Response ability can be used at the start of every End Phase for Jinwoo; as long as you remove 1 XP card from your hand, or even your stage, you can level up.
What Is an XP Card in UniVersus?

In the Solo Leveling Challenger Series deck, you’ll find numerous cards with the XP keyword. They may also have different keywords, such as Weapon, and we’ve given two examples above. The Clash with the Bloodred card on the left is an Attack card with the Weapon and XP keywords, and the Improving Skills card on the right is a Foundation card which only has the XP keyword. Discard either of these cards, or any other with the XP keyword, at the start of your End Phase to level up.
What Are the Benefits of Leveling Up in UniVersus?

There are numerous extra abilities which can be unlocked as you level up using Jinwoo and the Assassin Skill Tree, which makes it well worth pursuing as a new and (for now) unique strategy in UniVersus. If you’re a fan of Solo Leveling, you’ll note that Jinwoo’s skills unlock in the same order as they do in the show (and, of course, the manga which preceded it), making it extra thematic, rewarding and just plain satisfying if you’re already familiar with the lore!
That said, it’s not just about fan service; with the Assassin Skill tree, you start at the top of the card with Critical Attack as your first level up ability (allowing you to Enhance a Weapon attack, giving +1 damage for each attack in your card pool), then moving on to even more powerful skills to choose from.
Does it make Jinwoo particularly powerful to have all of these skills available over the course of the game? It does, but again, this is highly thematic to Solo Leveling in general, which sees Jinwoo rapidly progress from being the weakest Hunter in the world, to an S-Rank powerhouse who can take on just about any challenge and win!
