Fantasy Flight have made a change to their release schedule for Star Wars Unlimited, bringing the Homeworlds set forward to October. There’s also been the announcement of a new set: Icons 2027 Edition. So what is Icons?
What We Know About Star Wars Unlimited’s Icons Set So Far
Thanks to an interview with Unplayable, Star Wars Unlimited’s Lead Designer Danny Schaefer has revealed numerous details about Icons. The set’s name is derived from the fact that it’ll primarily feature mostly recognizable, iconic characters from the Star Wars franchise. The release date swap, which now sees Icons releasing closer to holiday season and Homeworlds launching in October, is intended to give the set the best chance of capturing new players for Star Wars Unlimited.

That’s important, because Icons (despite launching in 2026, it follows the tradition of annual video game releases and MTG’s previous Core Sets, in having the following year as its edition) is a set which is designed to be accessible and welcoming to newcomers. It’s intended as a step up from the tutorial-style nature of the Intro Battle: Hoth set, focusing on core mechanics just like that introductory product.
Though it will feature some reprints of older common and uncommon cards, it’s not a reprint set per se. There will be new cards, including Leaders and others at all rarity levels. It is a smaller set though, designed to be accessible not just from a gameplay perspective, but from a cost standpoint too.

Despite the fact that it’s a newcomer friendly set, designed to encourage beginners to jump on board, organized play events specifically for Icons are in the pipeline. As can be surmised from the 2027 Edition branding, annual Icons releases could become the norm if the set is well received.
We’ll be sure to share more information on Icons, including card images, as soon as we can. In the meantime, check out our other Star Wars Unlimited coverage, including our guide to set rotation, and our list of the most valuable Mandalorian cards in the game!
