If you thought that Magic: The Gathering was done with Marvel after Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes, think again. In 2027, MTG returns to Marvel with Darkhold Destiny. It’s the first ever Universes Beyond set to be created around an original story and setting. MTG publishers Wizards of the Coast collaborated with Marvel to create the new storyline, with an original comic book to be launched alongside the set in April, 2027.
It’s also interesting to note that the set will focus on the mystical, mythical and supernatural corners of the Marvel Universe, unfolding across close to 30 dimensions with four main characters featured: Doctor Strange, Thor, Hela and Dormammu.

What is The Darkhold?

Taking inspiration from Lovecraft’s Necronomicon, The Darkhold is a mystical tome which has been at the heart of so many of Marvel’s mystical sagas. It’s led to the creation or transformation of numerous heroes, anti-heroes and villains, as well as being the source of power for many others. No doubt there’ll be special variants of The Darkhold, which fans will be very keen to get their hands on. We wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up commanding the same attention as cards such as the Infinity Stone, for example.
When Will Darkhold Destiny Be Released?

The Darkhold Destiny set is launching on April 7th, 2027. Before then, MTG and Marvel fans have numerous Marvel-themed Secret Lair drops to look forward to, including several themed entirely around Doctor Doom.
Which of course ties into Avengers: Doomsday, perhaps one of the most anticipated cinematic events in years. Fans can also expect to pick up a Doctor Doom MTG card at Regal Cinemas when seeing Avengers: Doomsday on opening weekend in Infinity Vision!
