10 Best Cards In The Pokémon Supercharged Breaker Set

Three cards from Supercharged Breaker, fanned out: Jasmine's Gaze, Hydreigon ex and the Stellar Pikachu card.

Japanese Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) set Supercharged Breaker has been released, and players can now get their hands on plenty of new, and exciting, Pokémon cards, which we’ll be seeing translated into English when the Surging Sparks set is launched on the 8th of November, 2024. Let’s take a look at the cards that have Japanese players trying to catch ’em all!

1. Hydreigon ex – Special Art Rare, 133/106

The most in-demand card from the Supercharged Breaker set, Hydreigon ex is a Darkness type, Stellar Pokémon. A special type of Tera Pokémon, Stellar Pokémon have the advantage of not being able to take damage from attacks when they’re on the bench, as well as powerful attacks that are slightly more complex than usual to use, as they utilize more than one energy type at a time.

This specific variant of Hydreigon ex is the Special Art Rare, which is a beautiful, full-art version of the card with a textured foil treatment. Though you’re unlikely to see this in anyone’s deck (more likely stored safely in a binder), it may still be useful to know what its attacks and abilities are, as you won’t know unless you’re fluent in Japanese!

Its first attack, Crashing Headbutt, deals 200 damage for the cost of just one Darkness energy; it has the bonus effect of also forcing your opponent to discard the top three cards of their deck. Secondly, the Obsidian attack, which is the card’s Stellar move, deals 130 damage to two of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon; this costs one Psychic, one Darkness, one Metal, and one Colorless energy to use.

2. Pikachu ex – Ultra Rare, 136/106

Everyone loves Pikachu, right? Especially when the adorable little electric mouse is wearing the Stellar Crown! Once again, this is a Stellar Pokémon, so it does have a slightly more complex attack than the average Pikachu.

A gold variant card, known as a Hyper Rare when the sets are translated into English, this Pikachu has the Resolute Heart ability, which means that if it has full HP and would be knocked out by damage from an attack, instead it isn’t knocked out and has its remaining HP set at 10.

This Pikachu’s single attack, Topaz Bolt, requires one Grass, one Lightning, and one Metal energy to use, and it deals 300 HP of damage. Though you’ll also need to discard three Energy cards from this Pokémon when you use it, that’s still a pretty devastating attack!

3. Jasmine’s Gaze – Special Art Rare, 135/106

The most popular cards in many recent sets are frequently those showcasing Pokémon Trainers in a variety of everyday situations; during the Scarlet & Violet era, it’s often been the case that they’re shown in a café, with Pokémon appearing somewhere in the illustration.

That’s definitely the case with this Jasmine’s Gaze card, which shows the Trainer at the bar on a stool, surrounded by delicious looking treats. Again, though you’re unlikely to be faced with this card in-game, you may have to deal with one of the Jasmine’s Gaze card’s variants.

This card, when played, takes effect during the opponent’s next turn. It allows all of the player’s Pokémon to take 30 less damage from their opponent’s Pokémon during their opponent’s next turn.

4. Pikachu ex – Super Rare, 122/106

This Pikachu card is a variant of the previous Pikachu card we’ve showcased, though this is its Super Rare variant. Though not blessed with the same gold finish as the other card we’ve already checked out, it’s otherwise identical.

This version of the card has the rainbow bordering that’s been introduced for Stellar Pokémon, and which you can also see on the Hydreigon ex card that’s in the top spot of this list.

5. Durant ex – Special Art Rare, 130/106

You’ll have noticed that all of the cards featured on this list have numbers that go above the “official” number of cards in the Supercharged Breaker set. That’s not a mistake; the number of cards in the set is 106, but any that go above that number are secret rare cards, mostly alternate art versions of cards in the base set. You can see the full list of Supercharged Breaker cards here.

Durant ex is no different; it’s a Special Art Rare card with a whimsical, cartoony illustration of the Pokémon doing what real world ants do, following the scent trail of another Durant!

When played to your bench, you can immediately discard the top card of your opponent’s deck, making this an instantly appealing card. It has a single attack, Vengeful Crush, which deals 120 HP of damage, plus an extra 30 HP of damage for each Prize card your opponent has taken.

6. Clemont’s Wit – Special Art Rare, 134/106

Supercharged Breaker has a focus on Lightning-powered Pokémon, and Clemont’s Wit reinforces that. When played, it allows the player to heal 60 HP of damage from each of their Lightning Pokémon.

This variant is the full art, Special Art Rare card, with an image that almost looks as if it could have emerged from a Studio Ghibli anime. It’s no surprise to find it on this list of cards that fans are very keen to get their hands on!

7. Slaking ex – Super Rare, 126/106

This Super Rare card features the lord of laziness, Slaking, on a vibrant, almost psychedelic background. This style of Pokémon card, which showcases a Pokémon outside of a natural environment, is very popular; it directs fans’ attention to the Pokémon immediately, with minimal distraction, and with a pleasingly tactile, textured foil treatment on the card.

Slaking’s ability reflects its lazy nature; if your opponent has no Pokémon ex or Pokémon V in play, it can’t attack! When it can, however, its single attack, Great Swing, deals 280 HP of damage (and you also have to discard an Energy card from Slaking), for the cost of just two Colorless energy.

8. Hydreigon ex – Super Rare, 124/106

Another variant of the Hydreigon ex card featured in the top spot, this one is the Super Rare, featuring a more stylized foil illustration of the Pokémon in question.

It does everything the other Hydreigon ex card does, from an in-game mechanics point of view, so it’s down to personal preference as to which Hydreigon ex you want in your collection. Why not both?

9. Mesprit – Art Rare, 114/106

It’s unlikely that fans will be picking this card up for its in-game abilities and attacks; just one look at its beautiful illustration should explain why it’s so sought after!

This Mesprit is fairly underpowered in terms of its HP, with just 70 health. However, it does have the Fulfill the Heart attack, which costs one Colorless Energy to use. It deals no damage, but instead allows the player to attach up to two Basic Psychic Energy cards from their hand to their Pokémon in any way they choose.

Its other attack deals a surprisingly powerful 160 HP of damage, but won’t deal anything unless the player also has Uxie and Azelf on their Bench!

10. Milotic ex – Super Rare, 121/106

In the humble opinion of the Pokémon fans at Card Gamer, Milotic has always been one of the most aesthetically beautiful Pokémon in the game. This Super Rare Milotic ex card definitely supports that opinion, with its gorgeous, minimalist design on a near abstract background that appears to be swirling, bubbling water.

Milotic ex has a Sparkling Scales ability, which prevents all damage from, and effects of, attacks from your opponent’s Tera Pokémon to this Milotic ex. Given how popular Tera Pokémon are becoming in the current meta, this is an incredibly useful ability!

Its sole attack is Hypno Splash, which deals 160 HP of damage to your opponent’s active Pokémon for the cost of just one Water and two Colorless Energy. It has the bonus effect of making your opponent’s active Pokémon Asleep too!
