It’s that time of year again, and while it isn’t truly Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza, here at Card Gamer we’re definitely in the holiday mood. So we thought we’d take a look at the most valuable holiday-themed TCG cards to make us feel even more festive!
10. Christmas Frogman – MetaZoo Holiday Promos, 5/19
Trading card game MetaZoo launched during the pandemic and caught the attention of eager investors worldwide. Whether or not it was ever intended for serious play, or for collectors, has always been a strong point of debate; in its original incarnation, it did seem to be an “investment opportunity” masquerading as a card game. Despite the original game’s demise in early 2024, some of its cards still hold at least some value, as you’ll see from this list of the most valuable holiday themed TCG cards, which kicks off with the Christmas Frogman MetaZoo Holiday Promo card.
9. New Year’s New Beginnings – MetaZoo Holiday Promos
See? We told you there’d be more! Moving past the Christmas period, this MetaZoo Holiday Promo card celebrates the New Year.
8. New Year New MetaZoo – MetaZoo Holiday Promos
That’s right, another MetaZoo card and another Holiday Promo with a New Year theme!
7. Hibiki and Chris, Holiday Moment – Weiss Schwarz JP Shop Promo, SG/W70-P08 PR
Anime-themed card game Weiss Schwarz is absolutely huge in Japan, but hasn’t built the same level of popularity in the West. However, this Japanese exclusive holiday promo card, featuring Symphogear characters, is sought after enough to have made it to the list of the most valuable holiday TCG cards!
6. First Anniversary Celebration – MetaZoo Holiday Promos
Our final MetaZoo card on this list is one which celebrates the game’s first anniversary. With MetaZoo only being around for a few years, this is perhaps a sad reminder of its end for the player base it did have. There’s good news for MetaZoo players, however; the game returned in redesigned form in 2025, and feels much more like a fully featured game, with much improved artwork and overall card anatomy.
5. Gatomon – Digimon Winter Holiday Event 2024, BT16-031
It always baffles me how little attention Digimon gets from its own publisher; Bandai seem almost embarrassed of their game and do very little to promote it. However, it’s a fantastic game with a strong set of mechanics and a unique feel; it’s far more than the Pokémon clone you may be expecting. This holiday themed Digimon card features Gatomon in a very festive illustration!
4. Seasonal Sequels – Magic: The Gathering Special Occasion, 1
We’re glad to see the OG trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, make an appearance on this list. It’s with a card that references numerous holiday themed movies, merging card names with famous Christmas film titles in its art and flavor text.
3. Imaginary Gift [Force] – Cardfight Vanguard Happy Holidays 2020, VG-2020/TOYOU
Like Weiss Schwarz, Cardfight Vanguard is another Bushiroad game which has remained a bit of an unsung hero outside of Japan. This gorgeous card shows just how appealing the game’s cards can be, from a visual standpoint, and it’s a shame that we don’t see Cardfight Vanguard making more of an impact with players here, as it’s an excellent experience.
2. Agumon – Digimon Winter Holiday Event 2023, ST15-02
More Santa-themed shenanigans are here with this second festive Digimon card. This time, it’s Agumon’s turn to dish out the gifts at Christmas!
1. Pikachu – Pokémon Holiday Calendar, SWSH153
For a number of years now, there’s been a Pokémon-themed advent calendar for fans to enjoy throughout December, which is much more dentist friendly than the standard chocolate calendars on offer! This Pikachu card is from the 2022 Holiday Calendar, and has a snowflake stamp to differentiate it from the standard variant of this card.
