I don’t think it’s unfair to say that Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond sets can be divisive. Yet for all of the missteps and seemingly ill-fitting franchises that Universes Beyond have brought to MTG, some mashups have been a match made in heaven. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a wonderful fit for MTG, and here we take a look at the most valuable cards in the Avatar: The Last Airbender set!

Toggle10. Fire Lord Azula (Borderless) – Rare, 334

If you’re an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan who’s coming to Magic: The Gathering for the first time, the different card variants and rarity levels may be bewildering. This Rare Fire Lord Azula card, for example; its only difference with the standard variant of the card is that the edges of the artwork aren’t obscured by the usual borders. That’s what makes it more valuable, but it’s also worth noting that, currently, most of the Avatar: The Last Airbender cards are pretty affordable; at least until you hit the top half of this list anyway.
9. Wan Shi Tong, Librarian – Mythic Rare, 78

This beautiful Wan Shi Tong, Librarian is notable for being the standard version of the card. It’s extremely unusual to find a fully bordered, non-alternate art variant of a card on a list of the most valuable cards, and it’s not even the only standard variant on this list.
8. Ozai, the Phoenix King (Borderless) – Mythic Rare, 311

This beautifully stylized card depicting Ozai is incredibly striking, so it’s very easy to see why it’d be one of the most highly sought after cards from the Avatar: The Last Airbender set. The art feels perfectly suited to the borderless variant we see here, and it’s very easy to see why this card would be so sought after.
7. Badgermole Cub – Mythic Rare, 167

Here’s the second of the two standard variant cards that have somehow made it onto the list of the most valuable Avatar: The Last Airbender cards. It’s not the last time we’ll see the Badgermole Cub either!
6. Badgermole Cub (Borderless) – Mythic Rare, 326

You didn’t have to wait long to see the next example of the Badgermole Cub, here in a borderless, alternate art variant which looks like it’s plucked straight from an in-universe nature guide! The Badgermole Cub’s double appearance on this list speaks to the card’s popularity, and with its excellent, Earthbending and bonus mana abilities, it’s not hard to see why fans are keen to not only collect this card, but also to add it into their decks.
5. Wan Shi Tong, Librarian (Borderless) – Mythic Rare, 320

Speaking of cards that appear more than once on this list, here’s another variant of Wan Shi Tong, Librarian. Much like the Badgermole Cub, this card’s artwork looks as if it’s torn from a page of a reference book, with a beautiful depiction of the owl surrounded by scrolls, shelves and a drawing of its very sharp looking talon.
4. Katara, the Fearless (Borderless, Neon Ink Foil) – Rare, 361

The top four cards on this list are all borderless variants with neon ink foil treatments. They each have stunning, color-coded, silhouette-based art which really makes them stand out amongst other cards in the set. That is, except the other neon ink foil cards, with Katara being just one of a set of four.
3. Toph, the First Metalbender (Borderless, Neon Ink Foil) – Rare, 362

This Toph, the First Metalbender card features the same style of artwork and foil treatment as Katara, and has a striking blue color instead of green. With these cards being found in less than 1% of collector boosters, it’s no wonder that they’ve become so valuable!
2. Fire Lord Zuko (Borderless, Neon Ink Foil) – Rare, 360

The third card in the neon ink foil quartet also features the “Battle Pose” silhouette style. It’s another card which can be found in less than 1% of collector boosters; of course, that could mean anything from 0.00001% (or lower!), up to 0.99% of packs. So these are incredibly scarce cards!
1. Aang, Swift Savior (Borderless, Neon Ink Foil) – Rare, 359

Finally in our top 10, we have the most valuable Avatar: The Last Airbender card that’s currently available: Aang, Swift Savior. The final borderless, neon ink foil card, it’s no wonder that, of the four, it’s the most valuable, given that it features the story’s protagonist. As an extra bonus, it’s double faced too! However, there’s one more card from the set which has been commanding absolutely extortionate prices. Let’s take a look in our bonus list entry.
Bonus Entry: Avatar Aang/Aang, Master of Elements (Raised Foil) – Mythic Rare, 363

We chose not to include this amazing, double faced card in the main list, for two reasons. Firstly, its value is sky-high, several times more than the number 1 entry, but it’s also fluctuating daily! Secondly, its availability is so limited that it didn’t seem right to include it; as of the time of writing, there are no copies of this card for sale on TCGplayer, and when it does return, who knows what price it will be listed for? One thing we do know is that it’s even rarer than the four neon ink foil cards, so if you find this in a collector booster, you’ll have stumbled upon some real treasure.
