Riot Games have revealed details for upcoming Riftbound sets, covering everything that’s on the way in 2027 for the hugely popular League of Legends trading card game. Let’s take a look at the exciting reveals!
Riftbound Set 6: Legacy
It goes without saying that any Riftbound set will have spectactular art. However, we were truly blown away when we first saw the art for set 6, Legacy. A stained glass window style artwork featuring four Legends, it’s a beautifully evocative work of art, and really sets the scene for the Legacy set.
Legacy is built around the regions of Runeterra, the League of Legends world: Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover/Zaun, Frejlord, and Bilgewater. Riot have said that the regions will all have aspects that carry through into the cards, and will be represented by the champions and mechanics in the set in a way that makes it feel unlike any prior Riftbound release.
We’ve also been given a sneak reveal of the new Legends in Legacy: Ashe, Garen, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere and Vladimir. Four more are yet to be revealed!
Legacy is also introducing changes to booster packs, with 1 less common card to be found per pack, and a new Legend/Battlefield slot in its place. Legacy is also being designed with a focus on drafting. This has been an aspect of Riftbound that hadn’t been a focus with the set design, but with the booster pack changes and a focus on draft mechanics in the entirety of the Legacy set, this should expand the ways to play Riftbound for many players.
Riftbound Set 7: The Reckoning
We’re so far ahead that we have very little information on Riftbound’s seventh set, The Reckoning. What we do know from Riot, and from the art above, is that some very big things are being awakened, and the set will feature a number of League’s biggest Champions. We won’t know more on Legacy until next year’s State of the Game report from Riot, but of course we’ll be sharing any updates we have, as soon as we get them!
Riftbound Proving Grounds: 2nd Edition
The original multiplayer starter set for Riftbound, Proving Grounds, was a huge success, and has become highly sought after by fans. So it’s good news that a second edition is on the way, to be released after Riftbound: Legacy in February 2027. It will feature four Champions from Legacy: Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi.
Though the first Proving Grounds set contained cards which were not available in other sets, this time there are no exclusive cards. Which should hopefully make it easier for new players to get their hands on the set, though of course the Chibi score trackers and other accessories may still make this a highly sought after product!
Riftbound Set 8
We’re heading so far into the future that we don’t even have the name for Riftbound’s eighth set yet. What we do have is concept art, as you can see above, and the tantalising detail that we’ll be visiting Bandle City and its Yordle inhabitants.
Interestingly, Riftbound set 8 marks the first time that Riot have brought artists in-house to work on concepts for the game. This is because the set is unique, and the approach felt like the right one for Riot, given that they feel this is the most immersive Riftbound set yet. As far away as set 8 is, we’re not quite done yet!
Riftbound Set 9
Now this really is an advance, sneak peek. All we have to go on for the last Riftbound set of 2027 are two keywords: Shadow and Isle. Well, that and two pieces of concept art, which you can see above and below.
Of course, League of Legends fans are likely to glean enough to get excited about, just from those keywords and the concept art! We’ll be back with more details on these sets and others, as further information is revealed.
