One thing we’re certainly not short of as card game fans right now are digital deckbuilding games. In particular, roguelike deckbuilding games. In the wake of the success of Slay the Spire (and, more recently, its own sequel), along with titles such as Balatro and the Monster Train games, amongst almost countless others, if you’re a fan of card gaming there’s an almost overwhelming selection to choose from. Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey is yet another which is arriving later this year. What unique gameplay elements does it bring to the table? Let’s find out!

What Is Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey?

As mentioned, Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey is a roguelike deckbuilding game. A stylistic hybrid of Marvel and anime elements, Seeker’s Alliance: Hero’s Journey has superb presentation, including diverse character design, great animation and excellent music.

The story is classic cyberpunk anime fare: an AI-ruled island in the Sea of Data is the target of Seekers who look to claim the island’s treasure, said to be able to grant any wish. The demo version seems to be lacking certain sound effects, but this will undoubtedly be addressed before the full game’s release in 2026.

What Sets Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey Apart From Other Roguelike Deckbuilders?

At first glance, it does seem as if this is a game with mechanics we’re all too familiar with. You’ll choose a hero with their own deck and abilities, you’ll make your way down a pathway dotted with encounters and events, youll buy and upgrade cards along the way, and you’ll engage in combat against a variety of enemies.

Yet the execution of combat is where it feels unique. Cards are color coded to be used in specific zones, though some are multi-colored, and all can be deployed in either the Attack Zone, Speed Zone or Defense Zone. Initiative, that is which player gets to activate their cards first in each phase, is determined by who has the highest power in their Speed Zone.

There are plenty of combos, abilities and strategies to sink your teeth into, and its narrative, along with the compelling gameplay, should mean that Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey will be a title to keep a close eye on as release approaches.
