Here at Card Gamer, we’re big fans of digital deckbuilding games. We’ve played so many, and so many types of them, so it’s no surprise that we’ve come across some that are absolutely perfect for spooky season. With the nights drawing in and Halloween approaching, let’s take a look at the best digital card games to play this Halloween!
Table of Contents
ToggleHonorable Mentions: Monster Train and Monster Train 2

Even though they’re not remotely scary, we’ve included Monster Train and Monster Train 2 here because their subject matter is definitely suitable for Halloween. In Monster Train, you represent the denizens of hell, on a locomotive containing the Pyre, which must be kept burning in order for your fellow demons and monsters to survive. Battling against the forces of heaven, Monster Train is a more vertiginous take on the Slay the Spire formula, casting you in the role of the legions of hell, defending yourselves against the armies of heaven. In the sequel, you instead team up with the angels to take on a big threat to both heaven and hell, and each game features brilliantly addictive gameplay with clever, three-tier battlefields. They’re among our favorite deckbuilding roguelike games ever, which is why we couldn’t go without ignoring them for this list!
Deck of Haunts

We were very impressed when we checked out Deck of Haunts, a roguelike deckbuilding game in which you are the haunted house, draining humans and protecting your Heart room from them. It’s a fantastically spooky game to play at Halloween, made even better by the fact that the developers have added a mode whereby you can deck your house out in Halloween theming, to give the human intruders a proper spooky season scare! Inscryption

Our pick for the best scary digital card game to play at Halloween, however, is Inscryption. Legitimately unsettling, it’s best to know as little as possible about Inscryption before diving in. What I can tell you is that you’ll be playing a sometimes gruesome card game against a shadowy figure, inside a cabin which holds a surprising number of secrets. And that’s all you’ll get from me on this! Inscryption is incredibly compelling, with a lo-fi, scratchy aesthetic; its tone and subject matter have a unique way of getting under your skin, making it the perfect digital card game for Halloween. Even better, if you’re a Game Pass subscriber, you can play Inscryption at no extra cost. So what are you waiting for?
