You may have heard of the mysterious Pokemon God Pack floating around social media, and featuring in your favourite Pokemon YouTubers videos, but what is it?
Well, from I am here to explain, and from someone who has been collecting Pokemon cards ever since the 90’s the Pokemon God Pack is a relatively new term that collectors have been desperately seeking.
A Pokemon God Pack is a type of pack (exclusively found in Japanese sets) that feature an increased amount of ultra rare cards in a single pack. Most packs are entirely filled with ultra rare cards. God Packs first started appearing in 2019.
The Pokemon Company were not the first to create god packs. Magic: The Gathering were one of the first, creating god packs that featured in the Journey into Nyx set in 2014 which featured all god cards in a single pack.
These packs were originally thought to be fake by consumers, but was confirmed real by Magic: The Gathering which then went onto to some impressive sales all thanks to the semi-viral marketing around the god packs.
How Rare Are Pokemon God Packs?
God Pack rarity depend on which set of Pokemon Cards you are opening, but typically Pokemon god packs have a average rarity of being pulled from 1 in 500 packs.
There’s no way of knowing you have a Pokemon God Pack until it is opened, so you won’t find any god packs for sell anywhere online, if you do, it’s likely a scam.
Some will say Japanese packs can be weighed to increase the chances of pulling a god pack, but its never guaranteed, so please be aware of that if you are attempting to buy a god pack.
Back in 2019 when Pokemon first launched god packs it had a lower rarity of 1 in 250, but in the new Pokemon 151 Scarlet & Violet set it has increased to around 1 in 500 packs.
Rumours have it that this will increase as the years go by. Some collectors think these god packs decrease the value of ultra rare cards, but in my personal opinion I think it’s a great marketing stunt and is a great dopamine rush for anyone that gets this lucky!
