Now that Riftbound’s second set, Spiritforged, is in the hands of eager fans worldwide, there’ve been some arguable choices for “best” card in a variety of categories. With Equipment cards being a new addition to Riftbound as of Spiritforged, it got us wondering: which Equipment card is the best?
Of course, there’s plenty of different strategies in Riftbound, and your deck may not be built for certain Rune colors. Yet one Equipment card kept coming up in conversation for us; so much so that we wanted to shine a spotlight on it. That card is Boneshiver. Let’s check it out!
What Is Boneshiver, and Why Is It Special?

A club owned by the Troll Champion, Trundle, Boneshiver is made of “True Ice”, a magical form of ice which is impossible to melt. In Riftbound, Boneshiver is a 3-cost Equipment card which gives a unit +2 Might. It also has the ability to channel 1 rune (exhausted) when the unit it’s equipped to conquers a Battlefield. Which is exactly what makes it so special; not only does it give a decent Might bonus to its unit, but it’s the ability to channel an extra Rune when conquering that really makes a difference.
If you’re running a deck which supports the Body (orange) Rune, it feels like using Boneshiver is a no-brainer. Of course, as you can use 3 copies of the same named card in any Riftbound deck, we’d highly recommend making sure that you have 3 Boneshiver cards too. Those extra Runes which allow you in turn to get more powerful cards in play, at a much faster rate than your opponent, should really help to put you on the path to victory in Riftbound!
It’s a shame there’s no Trundle Champion Legend card in Riftbound yet, but the appearance of Boneshiver in Spiritforged is a big tease that his appearance is on the horizon.
