Almost all trading card games (or TCGs) reach a point where they need to “rotate” cards out of legality for use in organized play. Whenever a game does this, it means that cards from a certain point in time can no longer be used in your deck when you’re playing at organized events, such as tournaments or even your weekly, local game store events. Disney Lorcana has not rotated any cards out of legality since launch, but that’s about to change. Let’s see how set rotation will work in Disney Lorcana.

ToggleWhen Will the First Rotation Happen in Disney Lorcana?

With the arrival of Disney Lorcana’s ninth set, Fabled, rotation will happen for the first time in the game. Fabled is being released on the 5th of September, 2025.
What Lorcana Sets Will Rotate When Fabled Arrives?

Though many games rotate a set or two out at a time, Disney Lorcana is handling rotation differently. When Fabled is released, the first four Disney Lorcana sets will be rotated. Which means that all cards from The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands and Ursula’s Return will lose their tournament legality. The next set rotation is not due to happen until the third quarter of 2026, so it’s currently planned that the four oldest sets will rotate on a yearly basis, to keep the game fresh and exciting at tournaments and other organized play events.
What Can I Do With My Lorcana Cards if They’re Not Tournament Legal?

Bear in mind that, even though you can’t use cards which have been removed from the current tournament legality, you’re free to continue using them in your non-organized play games of Disney Lorcana. As long as your game group agrees, of course!
Note also that some cards from earlier sets will be reprinted in later sets. This will mean that the older version of those cards will remain legal for tournament play. There will also be a format known as “Infinity Constructed”, and all cards, regardless of legality, may be used in that format.
