When a Trading Card Game (or TCG) has been around for a really long time, it tends to be the case that its cards become way more powerful than they were back when the game was launched. Known as “power creep”, it’s a way of making older cards outdated in the hope that players continue to purchase new products, though it can be frustrating when more casual players want to continue making use of their existing card collections. For example, the Pokémon with the highest HP in the very first Pokémon set from 1999 was Charizard, which had 120 HP. Which Pokémon currently has the highest HP though? Let’s find out!

Currently, the highest HP in the Pokémon TCG is 380, and the first Pokémon to get there was Mega Venusaur ex. It’s from the Mega Evolution set, and several art variants of the card exist. They range in value from very low to very high indeed; just know that, if you do want to get the Mega Venusaur ex into your collection, it doesn’t have to be too expensive unless you want the rarest version of the card!

Of course, with the aforementioned power creep, cards don’t remain at the the top of the food chain for long. Which is proven by the fact that Ascended Heroes set featured another card with 380 HP: Mega Emboar ex, as you can see above.

The Japanese Abyss Eye set also features a third card which has 380 HP: Wailord ex. Shown above in both variants from Abyss Eye, this Wailord ex card will be swimming to Western shores in July, when the Pitch Black set is released.

Will there be more? We think there will be, but hopefully not too many. Before long though, we can see HP values of 400 being breached, rising in parallel to attacks, which are also increasing in strength, thanks to the constant demand for more powerful and impressive cards.
