Riftbound’s third set is Unleashed, and it features all new mechanics and keywords. We’ve already covered XP here on Card Gamer, but what about the new Ambush keyword? Let’s find out how it works!
What Does Ambush Do in Riftbound?
A card with the Ambush keyword can be played directly to a battlefield where you have units. It can be played as a Reaction to a battlefield having your units too; this means that it can be played at any time, even on your opponent’s turn (check out our guide to keywords in Riftbound: Origins for more on that).
Some cards, such as the Rengar unit shown above, have extra abilities along with their Ambush. Rengar can be played to a battlefield with enemy units present even if you have no units there, though this isn’t specified as being a Reaction ability.
The Stalking Wolf above requires a Bird, Cat, Dog or Poro under your control to be killed as an additional cost to play it, even if using Ambush. It can then be played directly to the battlefield of the creature it killed!
Ambush is a very straightforward, easy to understand keyword. However, it can be a real game changer. We’re looking forward to seeing how it affects gameplay when the Unleashed set is released!
