Hold on to your hats, Trainers! Extradimensional Crisis, the next mini-set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, is coming out on Thursday, May 29th! The set, as expected (and as predicted), prominently features the Ultra Beasts, Pokémon from other dimensions that wreak havoc on the Earth. It also features Ultra Necrozma ex, the app’s first Dragon-type Pokémon-ex! But what are these new cards like? Let’s dive in!
Extradimensional Crisis Press Release
On Thursday, May 22nd, The Pokémon Company sent out a press release about the new PTCGP set. In it, they said the following:
Today, the Pokémon Company group announced that the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app will soon release a new themed booster pack entitled Extradimensional Crisis beginning May 29. In addition, Trainers can look forward to new themed events and accessories coming soon to the app.
New Extradimensional Crisis Themed Booster Pack
In Extradimensional Crisis, players can collect Ultra Beast Pokémon cards such as Buzzwole ex, Blacephalon, Nihilego and Guzzlord ex. First appearing in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon video games, Ultra Beast Pokémon are mysterious life-forms from another world that emerged from Ultra Wormholes and give off a mysterious, alien energy.
In celebration of their debut in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a new Ultra Beast-themed binder cover will be available for players to obtain through the Shop with shop tickets beginning May 29. Players will also be able to showcase their favorite card in a new floral display board, obtainable using event shop tickets gained through the upcoming wonder pick event between June 11 at 11 p.m. PDT to June 28 at 10:59 p.m. PDT.
Furthermore, Trainers will also be able to encounter more Pokémon from the Alola region in Extradimensional Crisis, including the debut of Type: Null.
More details about the Extradimensional Crisis themed booster pack can be found in a new trailer on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
New Events For The New Set
In addition to the general announcement for Extradimensional Crisis, The Pokémon Company also revealed the nature and timing for three upcoming events for Pokémon TCG Pocket:
Trainers can look forward to a series of themed in-app events coming soon.
- Ultra Beast Drop Event (June 3 at 11 p.m. PDT to June 13 at 10:59 p.m. PDT): Take on special solo battles to obtain new promo cards, including Ultra Necrozma ex.
- Wonder Pick Event (June 11 at 11 p.m. PDT to June 21 at 10:59 p.m. PDT): Obtain new promo cards such as Poipole and Stufful and obtain event shop tickets by completing missions.
- Ultra Beast Mass Outbreak Event (June 22 at 11 p.m. PDT to June 28 at 10:59 p.m. PDT): Cards relating to Ultra Beasts will appear in rare picks and bonus picks.
We like this loadout of events. Drop events, especially, are tons of fun, as they provide promos and often yield prizes like Pack Hourglasses, Shop Tickets, and Wonder Hourglasses. As a result, you’ll often have a bunch of resources to get more cards in the app. However, we can’t help but notice that the Emblem events are nowhere to be seen in the A3 season at large. This is probably because Ranked has ultimately replaced the concept; this isn’t a bad thing; it is simply interesting to note.
