Pokémon TCG Pocket “Warped Packs” May Offer Better Pulls

Does the structural integrity of the packaging on Pokémon TCG Pocket packs hold a deeper meaning? Let's take a look!
The three pack types for Genetic Apex, the first set for the Pokémon TCG Pocket app.

The past two and a half days have been massive for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. With the release of the Pokémon TCG Pocket app, players across the globe have opened packs of virtual cards, battled each other or in Solo Mode, and many have enjoyed themselves overall. But because of its release being just three days ago, there is much to learn about this game even still. For instance, does the structural integrity of the packaging on these digital packs hold a deeper meaning? Read on, and let’s find out together!

The Claim About Some Pokémon TCG Pocket Packs

Whenever you open a pack of cards in this app, you have three options (so far): Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo. Each pack has slightly differing odds for certain cards. As such, these are based on your personal needs. For example, if a player wants a card such as Wigglytuff EX, they should opt for the Pikachu pack as rates are higher there.

Normally this isn’t an issue as it’s up to preference. However, when you select your pack type, you’re greeted with a carousel of fifteen packs of this type. The variance is there from that moment on. So how do you know which pack to choose?

There have been reports that the digital packaging of some packs in this carousel of fifteen cards is warped. Many sources have already validated this through videos and word of mouth. The trick here, as well as the crux of the claim, is that these warped packs allegedly have a higher pull rate for quality cards.

So, naturally, we put this claim to the test a few times. Below is footage of one of our Mewtwo pack pulls. While rates are not always going to yield stellar results, our findings were largely that warped packs, when available, seem to give better pulls.

A Potential Disclaimer

Note that this isn’t 100% foolproof and not all warped packs are perfect, just as not all unwarped packs yield rubbish. This series of reports may also be the result of confirmation biases, so in this time of uncertainty regarding the app, please take all claims with a grain of salt.

But in cases like these, for now, it’s likely best if you judge this for yourself. You can find out how best to use the Pokémon TCG Pocket app by clicking here for our guide!
