Regular readers of Card Gamer will know that we’ve long been fans of Vault X’s accessories. Vault X are run by a team of passionate, lifelong gamers, and it shows; their products really do feel like they’re made by gamers, for gamers. We’ve covered quite a few of their products over the last few years, and we thought it was about time we zeroed in on one of their best: the Exo-Tec Sideloading Deck Box.

ToggleWhat Features Does the Vault X Exo-Tec Sideloading Deck Box Have?

Solidly constructed and covered in Vault X’s trademark, non-slip Exo-Tec exterior, this deck box is as fully featured as you’d expect. It has absolutely everything you need in order to safely transport your cards to and from game sessions and tournaments, with a magnetized lid (which you can attach to the top or the bottom of the box), a card divider and a microfibre lining inside the box (color matched to the box exterior).

You can see just how much room is in the box in the image above, with two Riftbound trial decks, themselves in boxes, fitting comfortably with space to spare. You can also see the lid of the box fully detached in our image, doubling as a soft, flat area on which cards can be safely placed.

You can see this in action in the below image, with the deck box holding two full Achroma decks, plus the quick play guide and reference cards, separated by the black divider which is included in the deck box. The box holds cards which are sleeved or unsleeved; of course, if you’re using unsleeved cards, you’ll be able to fit more in there; it’s labelled as a 100+ deck box, so it’s perfect for Commander decks or even multiple decks of cards for other games, which have smaller deck size requirements.
The Card Gamer Verdict

With space for an awful lot of cards (check out our mix of sleeved and unsleeved cards, using various sleeve types, as well as multiple dividers, in the above image) and solid, reliable construction, we’re big fans of Vault X’s Exo-Tec Sideloading Deck Box. Like many other products in their various accessory ranges, it can also be found in a variety of eye-catching colors; in our case, we opted for the Neon Green variant, but there’s plenty of others to choose from. With the RRP coming in at just a few dollars more than the cheap, unreliable Chinese-originated deck boxes you’ll find elsewhere, you can be sure you’re getting a great product for the right price too.
If you have one of Vault X’s larger, modular game boxes which also have room for accessories such as tokens, you can also substitute one of the deck boxes in that for this one. Making it incredibly versatile and useful if you’re already in the Vault X product ecosystem.
Even if you are just looking for your first Commander deck box, or a deck box that’ll stand up to repeated transport in your backpack or messenger bag, the Vault X Exo-Tec Sideloading Deck Box is an undeniably good choice, and it’ll last you for years to come.
