One of the most intriguing releases for some time, Paradox Rift brings a number of really interesting keywords, abilities and mechanics to the Pokemon Trading Card Game.
With 186 unique cards (and 266 overall, if you include alternate art variants and special card treatments), it’s a pretty comprehensive set – which also has a few cards that have already started to make an impact in the competitive scene.
So let’s take a look at the entire list of Paradox Rift cards for the Pokemon TCG!

Note also that the set code on each card – which tells you that the cards are part of the Paradox Rift set – is PAREN, as highlighted in the photo above.
Why Are The Cards Only Numbered Up to 182?
Though there are 266 cards in the Paradox Rift set, you’ll notice that they’re only numbered up to 182.
That’s because there are ‘only’ 182 unique cards in the set; any cards that go above and beyond the number 182 is a rarer, alternate art variant of a previous card.
When a card’s number exceeds the set number – for example, 183/182 – the card in question is classified as a ‘Secret Rare’.
However, not all Secret Rare cards are as rare as one another; you can learn more in our Pokemon Card Rarities guide.
What’s New In Paradox Rift?
As well as some absolutely phenomenal Secret Rare full art cards, there’s a few new (and returning!) mechanics in Paradox Rift.
Paradox Pokemon
One of the biggest additions to the game – as indicated by the title of the set – are Paradox Pokemon.
These are similar, mechanically, to cards bearing the Fusion Strike, Rapid Strike and Single Strike types – except for Paradox Pokemon, they’re labelled either Ancient or Future.
Each of these keywords has Trainer cards which make use of them; interestingly, most of these Trainer cards are only functional with Paradox Pokemon – for example, the Pokemon Tool named Ancient Booster Energy Capsule. T
his card adds 60 HP to the Ancient Pokemon it’s attached to, as well as healing it from all Special Conditions – and rendering it immune to further Special Conditions too. Without an Ancient Pokemon, it’s no use at all, but coupled with the appropriate card it’s very powerful indeed!
Technical Machines
Though these aren’t new as such, Technical Machines haven’t been seen in the Pokemon Trading Card Game for at least a decade – so there’s potentially a whole generation of players who hasn’t seen or even heard of them!
Technical Machines are very powerful Tool cards that replace a Pokemon’s attack – and, once used, are discarded.
There are four Technical Machine cards in Paradox Rift: Blindside, Devolution, Evolution and Turbo Energize.
Upcoming sets are due to feature the return of another Pokemon Trainer card type: Ace Spec cards. These are another long dormant card type making a long awaited return; you can find out more information on those in our Ace Spec Pokemon Card guide!
