Debuting in Riftbound’s second set, Spiritforged, is a new card type: Equipment. So how does it work, and what rules are there for using Equipment? Let’s find out!
What Are the Equipment Rules in Riftbound?

When playing an Equipment card from your hand, the power cost is paid as normal. It is played to your base, like any other Gear card. When then paying the Equip cost, as with the Serrated Dirk shown above, “equip” a unit card. That is to say that the Equipment is played under a unit, and remains there, bestowing all of its bonuses to the unit it is equipped to.
The Equipment’s abilities are shown at the bottom of the Equipment card, which means that these are visible with the unit at all times. In the case of the Serrated Dirk again, this gives the unit it’s equipped to Assault 2; this allows the Unit to get a +2 Might bonus when attacking.

If an Equipment card has the Quick-Draw keyword, it can be played directly to a unit, without the need for it to be played to a base first.

If unit with Equipment attached dies, the Equipment remains in play and returns to your base. Equipping it means paying its Power cost once more. Note also that Equipment can’t be equipped (as in transferred) to another unit while it is equipped, unless another keyword, such as Weaponmaster (shown on Ornn, Forge God above), allows this.
It’s worth noting that there is no limit to the number of Equipment cards which can be equipped on a unit, and if the unit ever becomes controlled by another player, the Equipment also moves with the controlled unit.

Also, do be aware of Signature Gear; this can only be used by the named Champion; in the case of the Spinning Axe shown above, this must be used in a deck headed up by Draven Legend card.
The rules text above the ability box is entirely inactive when the Equipment card is equipped, and only the ability text is active while equipped. That explains why and how the keywords above the ability box cannot be used while the card is equipped, but also why a card cannot be unequipped and transferred to another unit by paying the equip cost.
