With Riftbound’s second set, Spiritforged, introducing several keywords and mechanics, we thought it’d be a good idea to give you the heads-up on what’s new, and how it all works. Let’s take a look at each new keyword and mechanic from Spiritforged, in alphabetical order!

ToggleEquipment

Equipment cards are played from your hand to your base, paying the usual Energy cost (that’s just 1 Energy in the case of the Serrated Dirk shown above). Then, there’s an extra cost to Equip the card to a unit; in this case, it’s the recycling of 1 Red (Fury) Rune. Once equipped, only the Serrated Dirk’s bottom section is visible underneath the unit it is equipped to. This then gives that unit the bonus as shown; again using the example of the Serrated Dirk, that’s Assault 2, which is a +2 Might bonus when the unit is attacking. Gold

There are new ways to generate power in Riftbound as of Spiritforged. Perhaps the most exciting method uses Gold tokens, which can be created using the abilities of other cards, then “spent” to create power of any color. Note that you can only do this with a Gold token if it’s ready, not exhausted, as the text specifies that the token must be exhausted and killed in order to add the power you need. The text on the card is slightly confusing, as it instructs the player to kill the card then exhaust it, but the correct usage is to exhaust the token, then kill it. Note that it also has the Reaction keyword, which means that it can be activated at any time.
Quick-Draw

An Equipment related keyword, Quick-Draw allows the player to equip a unit at no extra cost, using the card with the Quick-Draw keyword. For example, the Sterak’s Gage card shown above can be played for 3 energy, plus 2 recycled Green (Calm) Runes. With Quick-Draw, it can then be immediately equipped to a unit, without paying a further Equip cost. However, if you don’t take advantage of Quick-Draw and instead play Sterak’s Gage to your base, you’ll need to recycle 1 Green (Calm) Rune in order to equip it at a later stage of the game.
Repeat

A keyword which is used for Spell cards, Repeat allows you to use a card’s effect twice when played, for an extra cost. For example, the Called Shot card above can be repeated if you recycle 1 Purple (Chaos) Rune. The Temptation card, also shown above, can be repeated by exhausting 2 Runes of any color. When repeating, you simply carry out the card’s effect again after completing it the first time. Then the Spell is discarded as normal.
Weaponmaster

You can only equip a single piece of Equipment to a unit, and once equipped it must stay with that unit unless the unit is killed. However, the Weaponmaster keyword can break those rules. Firstly, a Weaponmaster may equip a piece of Equipment to itself for the equip cost, minus 1. A Weaponmaster can also have multiple Equipment cards attached.
