Whenever a new set launches for any trading card game (or TCG), there are two distinct types of card that fans are eager to find in their booster packs: the most useful and powerful cards to try out in their decks, and the rarest and most beautiful cards to add to their collection. The latter will often rapidly increase in value just after a set is released, and they’ll tend to be the most visually interesting cards too. It’s no different for Disney Lorcana, which has cards at a special rarity level known as Enchanted. As they’re so rare (found in 1 in every 72 packs!), they’re always the most highly sought after cards in any set, and the same is true for Disney Lorcana’s sixth set, Azurite Sea, as you’ll soon see. Come with us, as we check out which cards are the most wanted in Azurite Sea!
Table of Contents
Toggle10. Maleficent’s Staff – Enchanted Rare, 210/204
First up on our list of cards is Maleficent’s Staff, an Item card which is most sought after as an Enchanted Rare (and, as I’ve already alluded to, you’ll note that every card on this list appears in its Enchanted Rare form). Enchanted Rares sport the rainbow rarity symbol that you can see at the bottom center of the card, and they’re also easier to spot as they’re full art cards, meaning that they don’t have the black border that’s seen on other cards.
Enchanted Rares also feel much more special in general, as they have a textured foil treatment that makes them feel truly unique alongside other Lorcana cards. In the case of the Azurite Sea Enchanted Rares, you’ll also note that each has a sepia tone, with an almost hand-drawn look, in keeping with the set’s theme of exploration and adventure; it makes them feel like illustrations on a hand-drawn map, or perhaps the art from an old-fashioned storybook!
Maleficent’s Staff seems incredibly powerful for its cost of just two ink. It allows players to gain one point of lore any time one of their opponent’s characters, items, or locations is returned to their hand from play. Pair it with a card, or multiple cards, that force your opponent’s cards back into their hand and you’ll seriously get ahead on lore points, getting yourself closer to victory.
Of course, the Maleficent’s Staff card does appear in the Azurite Sea set as a non-Enchanted Rare; you’re not likely to come up against its valuable Enchanted Rare variant in a deck!
9. We Could Be Immortals – Enchanted Rare, 219/204
Another aspect that identifies an Enchanted Rare card is the card numbering, which always goes above the number of cards in the base set. For example, in Azurite Sea, there are 204 cards in the base set. Enchanted Rares are always numbered above 204, as they’re alternate art versions of cards in the base set; with the numbers exceeding the base set’s number of cards, they’re sometimes known as “Secret Rare” cards, which is a common name for cards of this type in TCGs.
We Could Be Immortals, card number 219, is a Song card (appropriately, given that it’s the name of the Fall Out Boy song that plays over the end credits of the animated super hero movie, Big Hero 6). If you have a character with cost four or more, they can sing the song for free, negating its four-ink cost entirely. It’ll give your Inventor cards Resist +6 for the turn, which means that they each have the ability to ignore six points of damage dealt to them!
8. Yzma, Conniving Chemist – Enchanted Rare, 209/204
The villain from The Emperor’s New Groove, Yzma’s card in Azurite Sea is a four ink-cost character with 3 strength and 3 willpower. Though not that impressive from a stats point of view, she does also have an ability which allows her to exert, so her player can draw three cards if they have fewer than three cards in their hand.
Given that card draw, and hands of cards in general, are an important and often difficult balancing act in Lorcana, it’s clear that Yzma is much more valuable in play than her stats would imply at first glance.
7. Daisy Duck, Pirate Captain – Enchanted Rare, 211/204
The different character classifications in Disney Lorcana (Storyborn, Dreamborn, and Floodborn) allow the game’s designers to introduce some really interesting spins on classic characters. This is due to the fact that they’re summoned to the game by players as ink-powered “Glimmers,” and the summoning process can change them. Dreamborn characters, for example, have been altered to bring them to life in new and unusual ways, such as this Dreamborn Daisy Duck, reimagined in Azurite Sea as a pirate captain.
This Daisy Duck card is another character which aids its owner with drawing cards; her printed ability allows players to draw a card whenever one of their Pirate characters quests at a location. Otherwise, she’s identical to the Yzma card we’ve already seen in terms of cost and stats (they can each gain two points of lore when questing, too), though she’s an Emerald card rather than Amethyst. 6. Tigger, In the Crow’s Nest – Enchanted Rare, 215/204
Lorcana character cards can have a variety of different subtypes in addition to being either Storyborn, Dreamborn, or Floodborn. One of the funniest aspects of any Tigger card in the game is that one of their subtypes is Tigger, giving them the opportunity for unusual combos.
Despite this, there’s yet to be a card which properly makes use of the Tigger subtype, though with three different Tigger cards in Lorcana, with this In the Crow’s Nest version being the latest, it’s only a matter of time.
In terms of in-game ability, this Tigger can gain one point of strength and one lore any time you play an action. Though he starts with 0 strength, clever timing of actions can really power him up!
5. Chip ‘n’ Dale, Recovery Rangers – Enchanted Rare, 205/204
Given the nostalgia for the plucky chipmunk duo in their ’90s Rescue Rangers incarnations, it’s surprising that Chip ‘n’ Dale haven’t appeared in Lorcana until the game’s sixth set. However, they more than make up for it in Azurite Sea, with cards that have them appearing both solo and as a duo, alongside other characters from Rescue Rangers too.
One of the coolest things about Floodborn cards is that they can be played a little like an evolved Pokémon form; that is to say that they can be played on top of another character already in play in order to make it stronger. In Lorcana, Floodborn cards have the Shift keyword, which allows them to be played on top of other cards for a reduced cost.
Usually players will have to choose another card with the same character to use Shift, but in the case of Chip ‘n’ Dale, Recovery Rangers, it can be used to Shift a Chip or a Dale card, which makes it quite a bit more versatile than a normal Floodborn card.
4. Wreck-It Ralph, Ham Hands – Enchanted Rare, 220/204
It might be surprising to see video game villain (turned hero!) Wreck-It Ralph back again in Lorcana, after the Shimmering Skies set featured him and several characters from his first film so heavily. However, Ralph is definitely a popular character, and his card (or at least the Enchanted version of it!) placing so highly on the list of the most wanted Azurite Sea cards is a testament to that.
His ability is really thematic too, giving him the power to banish an item or location (quite literally wrecking it) in order to gain two lore points. Do that multiple times per turn, and victory will arrive very quickly indeed, especially as Ralph himself can quest for an impressive three points of lore too.
This is a card that’ll be very interesting to see in competitive play; no doubt it’ll find its place, at least with players already using Steel ink-type decks.
3. Basil, Disguised Detective – Enchanted Rare, 212/204
Up until the Disney Renaissance, which began in 1989, the animation studio’s ’80s output had mostly underperformed, both critically and commercially; they were far from the pop culture powerhouse they’d previously been, and definitely not the behemoth we know them as today. 1986’s The Great Mouse Detective (which was released in some territories, the UK included, as Basil, The Great Mouse Detective) was a step in the right direction for the then-somewhat beleaguered studio, and it’s the lead character from that movie who features on this card.
An Emerald, Floodborn character card, Basil, Disguised Detective can use the Shift mechanic to be played on another card named Basil for a reduced cost of four ink. Whenever a card is placed in your inkwell, Basil, Disguised Detective allows players to pay one ink to have a chosen opponent discard a card. Lorcana players know just how vital it is to have cards in their hand, so this can prove devastating if used well.
2. Baymax, Personal Healthcare Companion – Enchanted Rare, 218/204
The characters from Big Hero 6 are well represented in the Azurite Sea set, with each of them having multiple incarnations, representing their civilian and heroic alter ego forms. This card features nurse robot, Baymax, in his non-armored, non-superhero form.
Just like We Could Be Immortals, it’s another Big Hero 6 card which takes advantage of the Inventor subtype; you can pay one ink less to play Baymax if you have an Inventor in play. He also has another, highly thematic ability, which allows him to heal another character one point of damage for the cost of two ink.
1. Tiana, Restaurant Owner – Enchanted Rare, 206/204
The endearing and relatable protagonist of Disney’s hugely underrated (and, sadly, financially underperforming, at least initially) animated movie, The Princess and the Frog, Tiana appears here with her ultimate dream, of owning her own restaurant, fulfilled.
It’s a beautiful card, so it’s not difficult to see why this is the most wanted card from Azurite Sea overall. It’s also deceptive in its abilities. At first glance, its stats don’t seem anything special, but if an opponent wants to challenge any of your characters while Tiana is exerted, they either get -3 strength, or pay three ink to remove that penalty.
It’s an interesting and very powerful ability, so coupling that in-game utility with the stunning card art and textured foil treatment makes it clear to see why this card has immediately become a firm favorite and the front runner, value-wise, of all cards in Azurite Sea!
Want to play Disney Lorcana but can’t find anyone to regularly play against? Or perhaps your friends and family are bored of playing against you, because you’re just too good at the game! If either of those options are a problem you have, there’s a solution already out there, as you’ll see if you check out our guide on how to play solo and co-op in Disney Lorcana!
