Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of UniVersus in 2026, With These Exciting New Sets

UniVersus will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026, and we're taking a look at what's in store for this massive milestone year!
UniVersus 2026 Roadmap

It’s been a phenomenal few years for UniVersus, the popular TCG which started way back in 2006 as the Universal Fighting System, or UFS. With 2026 marking the 20th anniversary of UniVersus, more very exciting new releases are on the way. Let’s take a look at what’s on the cards for UniVersus in 2026.

King of Fighters XV Challenger Series

Given that the UniVersus system is perfect for adapting fighting games, it’s fitting that the TCG’s 20th year is beginning with Challenger Series decks featuring characters from SNK’s long-running franchise, King of Fighters. UniVersus itself has a long history of bringing popular fighting game franchises to the tabletop, and what’s even cooler about this release is that King of Fighters has previously been featured as a UniVersus set in 2006, marking its own 20th anniversary with the card game!

Another popular media franchise which has appeared in UniVersus before is Godzilla, which was celebrating its own 70th anniversary when the Godzilla Challenger Series decks were released. You can see some of the cards from the previous Godzilla UniVersus set above, which consisted of two Challenger Series decks; however, now the mighty kaiju is getting a full booster set for UniVersus, to be released in 2026!

My Hero Academia Challenger Series

The recent growth and success of UniVersus owes much to its relaunch in 2021, with sets branded as the My Hero Academia Collectible Card Game. It’s worth noting that, despite being referred to on the packaging of boxes and booster packs as the My Hero Academia Collectible Card Game, each card still had UniVersus branding on the back! So it’s great to see My Hero Academia still receiving new UniVersus content in 2026, with more Challenger Series decks on the way.

Tekken 8 Booster Set

With Tekken 8 having been adapted to UniVersus with Clash Decks in 2024, Bandai Namco’s superb fighting game franchise will have its own booster set in 2026. We were big fans of the Tekken 8 Clash Decks here at Card Gamer, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the selection of Tekken UniVersus cards expand when the booster set is released!

Street Fighter 6: Part Deux Challenger Series

The image above, of cards from a Street Fighter set released for the Universal Fighting System in 2006, should demonstrate just how far back the TCG’s association with Capcom’s iconic, groundbreaking fighting game series goes. More recently, Street Fighter 6 arrived in UniVersus with two Challenger Series decks, and round two (or Part Deux, as they’re officially called) of the Challenger Series will see even more decks released, showcasing more of Street Fighter 6’s eclectic and diverse castof colorful characters!

Fairy Tail Booster Set

Finally, we have the enormously popular anime and manga series, Fairy Tail, heading to UniVersus in 2026 with its own booster set. It’s the only set announced for 2026 so far which has not previously appeared in UniVersus, so we’re pretty excited to see how UVS Games adapt it. Given how thematic other UniVersus sets always are, we’re confident that we’ll see some pretty fun cards based around Natsu, Lucy and the rest of the saga’s cast!

There’s much more to come from UniVersus in 2026, including leveled up Organized Play, and we’ll be covering as much as we can right here on Card Gamer. So stay tuned, and let’s celebrate the 20th anniversary of UniVersus together!
