The heroes in a half shell, as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are often referred to, celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2024. With their status as enduring pop culture icons, the mutant teens have now made their debut in UniVersus. Which got us wondering: what are the most valuable cards in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set? Setting aside serialized cards, which are always the most valuable cards in a UniVersus set due to their scarcity, we took a look at which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles UniVersus cards are currently selling for the highest prices of all. Let’s check them out!

10. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Character Alt, Common, 209/186

The only group shot in the list of the most valuable Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles UniVersus cards, and also the only card here which features Donatello. Which I was pretty surprised to see! Nevertheless, this alternate art Character card, featuring the brothers in their Mutant Mayhem forms, is a great way to start this list.

9. Raphael, the Muscle – Character Alt, Common, 204/186

As the theme song for the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show declares, “Raphael is cool, but rude”. Though that’s a matter of debate, with some fans sure that the song says “crude”, rather than “rude”! In any case, you wouldn’t think of either word from this art of Raphael, in his 80s cartoon guise, having a blast on a skateboard with a joyous look on his face. With no weapons or attitude to be found!

8. Leonardo, the Leader – Character Alt, Common, 196/186

On a similar note, this Leonardo card features the leader of the team with a skateboard and his tongue out, clearly having a blast in the sewer! The 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon transformed what was once a fairly dark, satirical and violent comic into a family friendly show, introducing elements such as the different colored bandanas, amongst many other things that fans of the turtles now take for granted.

7. Michelangelo, the Wild Card – Character Alt, Common, 200/186

Here we have an alternate art variant of the Michelangelo Character card, featuring the most fun-loving of the brothers in his Mutant Mayhem form. What distinguishes the Mutant Mayhem Michelangelo from any other are his braces, amongst other telltale signs!

6. Ray Fillet, Singing Stingray – Alt, Secret Rare, 231/186

Ray Fillet first appeared as Man-Ray in a 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. In Mutant Mayhem, Ray’s defining characteristic was singing his own name, likely because his voice was provided by none other than Post Malone. This card features his tattooed appearance from Mutant Mayhem, which again seems to reference his voice actor in the movie.

5. Raphael, the Muscle – Character Alt, Common, 205/186

Some clever photography gives this Raphael Character card a brilliantly tangible, physical feel. Seeing this creative use of props and a real world environment, I immediately thought of the Pokémon cards created by Yuka Morii. If you know me and my love of Yuka Morii’s art, you’ll know there’s no higher praise than that!

4. Genghis Frog, Temperamental Toad – Alt, Secret Rare, 224/186

As cool as this mostly green card is, we can’t help feeling that it has a pretty confusing title. As one of the Punk Frogs, Genghis Frog is definitely not a toad. One thing that is mostly consistent across his various incarnations, however, is his love of a Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts, both of which he wears in Mutant Mayhem. Which is the version of Genghis Frog that appears to be represented on this card!

3. Last-Ditch Effort, Alt, Ultra Rare, 223/186

The version of Raphael on this card is from Mutant Mayhem. He’s easy to spot, as he has a gap in his teeth! However, this is the only non-Character card on this list, being an Attack card that just happens to feature the sai-wielding turtle. The predominantly green card is oozing with Mutagen too, giving it a very striking look.

2. Leonardo, the Leader – Character Alt, Common, 197/186

Another card which features an action figure in a dynamic pose, against a real backdrop, this Leonardo Character card is an awesome showcase for what can be achieved with photography, rather than illustrations. It’s also a good time to point out that the heart symbol, showing a Character’s health, is dripping with Mutagen on every Character card in this set!

1. Leonardo, the Leader – Character Alt, Common, 195/186

The most valuable card on this list is another Leonardo. Though I could be mistaken, this one seems to hail from the IDW comics. Though the art style is different, there are numerous aspects which also cross over with the 2012 animated show version of the character too.

So there you have it; those are the most sought after cards from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set for UniVersus.
