As lifelong fans of Marvel Comics, and Spider-Man in general, here at Card Gamer we’ve been eagerly awaiting the MTG Spider-Man set, hanging on every card reveal by a thread (likely a web-based thread, yes?). A single card has really stood out for us as the one that we can’t wait to have in our decks, but which one is it? Let’s find out what Card Gamer’s favorite card is, from the MTG Spider-Man set!
Spider-Verse – Mythic Rare, SPM 0093

So here we are with the Spider-Verse card, an Enchantment which removes the “legend rule” from Spiders you control. The legend rule in Magic: The Gathering is this: a player cannot control more than one legendary permanent with the same name, at the same time. If a player does end up having multiple legendary permanents of the same name in play simultaneously, they must choose one to keep, then put the others into their owners’ graveyards.
Removing that for cards designated as Spiders means that you can call in all sorts of legendary Spider-People from across the multiverse. This alone makes it a typically flavorful and thematic MTG card, but there’s more, and this may be the most exciting part overall.
You can also use Spider-Verse to copy a card which is played from anywhere except your hand. Your copy, if it’s a permanent creature spell, also gains haste. Which ensures that it can be used immediately, without having to wait around with the pesky old summoning sickness.
Yes, it’s an Enchantment, which means it’s definitely going to be a target for removal. Even so, this card, its art, its thematic nature and its excellent abilities has us under its spell. Despite its Mythic Rare status, it’s not even an expensive card to get hold of, so if you want to make yourself a thematic Spider-Verse deck using this card as the basis, this card at least won’t break the bank!
