Though seasoned trading card game (or TCG) players will find that Star Wars Unlimited is an incredibly easy to learn and very accessible game, I think it’s easy for us veteran gamers to forget just how daunting it is to get to grips with a new game. Even one as intuitive and easy to pick up as Star Wars Unlimited! Two Player Starter sets were previously the best way to learn and play Star Wars Unlimited for beginners. However, from the Jump to Lightspeed set onwards, these are no longer being released. So what’s the best way to learn the game now? Enter Intro Battle: Hoth!
What is Star Wars Unlimited’s Intro Battle: Hoth Box Set?
Though the Two Player Starter sets for previous releases were very well designed and an excellent way to learn the game, they may still have seemed daunting to the average newcomer to TCGs. Which is where the new Intro Battle: Hoth set comes in, as it’s specifically designed to be completely accessible. Even if you’ve never played a TCG before, this set, which uses one of the most iconic battles in Star Wars history as its setting, will help you get up and running in no time.
What Does the Intro: Battle Hoth Box Contain?
Inside the box are two, 50-card decks. One is headed up by Leia Organa, and the Leader for the second deck is none other than Darth Vader. There’s also a game board, rules guide and the tokens you’ll need during the game.
How Does Intro Battle: Hoth Teach Fans How to Play Star Wars Unlimited?
Firstly, the game’s board has clearly marked areas, with each section featuring brief, helpful rules summaries. However, the masterstroke of Intro Battle: Hoth’s approach is the fact that the decks are pre-arranged so that players can play along with a step by step, “scripted” first game. This allows all of the concepts and mechanics to be learned while playing. This practical method of learning the game is highly effective.
The board’s rules summaries and rules guide book are there for players to refer to once they’ve tried the scripted experience, and the decks can be shuffled to play a “standard” game of Star Wars Unlimited, as many times as players want to. The board and Leader cards are exclusive to the set, but all cards (and the board itself) can still be used when players are ready to explore more of what Star Wars Unlimited has to offer.
When Will Intro Battle: Hoth Be Available?
The Intro Battle: Hoth set will be available from October 3rd, 2025. It is being positioned as a mass market product, which means you can expect to see it in mainstream retailers. Which means that Intro Battle: Hoth will be in national stores, which may not have previously stocked Star Wars Unlimited products, and other products from the range will also be available in those stores.
