With Disney Lorcana’s fourth set, Ursula’s Return, focusing on the battle against a resurgent Sea Witch, the Enchanted cards took on a darker overall aesthetic. Though still gorgeous, as well as thematic, it did feel like a notable departure from the cards found in prior sets.
With Enchanted cards taking up all of the spots in the most valuable Ursula’s Return cards list, this darker style was very noticeable. With (spoiler alert!) the defeat of the Sea Witch, a battle that players could take on solo or co-operatively, the Disney Trading Card Game’s next set, Shimmering Skies, has a far more upbeat and celebratory tone.
As such, the Enchanted cards in Shimmering Skies have a much more vibrant, boldly colourful look; given that Enchanted cards are always the most sought after and valuable cards in a set (due not just to their gorgeous, full art look and beautiful textured finish, but their booster pack pull rate too), you’ll again see the constrast in styles just by taking a look at the most valuable cards.
As always, we’ve used data from TCG Player to find out the current, average selling prices for cards from the set. So let’s take a look at the most valuable cards in Disney Lorcana’s fifth set, Shimmering Skies!
1. Mufasa, Ruler of Pride Rock – Enchanted Rare ($208)
In at the top spot is an undeniably beautiful card; yes, art is subjective, but this is a bold, colourful and strikingly illustrated card that would be thrilling to pull from a Shimmering Skies booster pack! With a current average selling price of $208, the Mufasa, Ruler of Pride Rock card just about makes it to number one against strong competition from other cards in the set.
So, in game terms, what can Mufasa offer? Well, he’s an 8 Ink cost card, so it’ll take a little while to get him into play; also, bear in mind that he doesn’t have the Ink symbol around his cost, so you won’t be able to play him into your Inkwell (not that you’d want to, necessarily; doing so would of course mean you’d lose access to him for the rest of the game!).
He has a reasonable 4 Strength and an excellent 9 Willpower, plus he also generates a pretty stunning 4 points of Lore when Questing. That high Willpower gives him a certain freedom to Quest too, as he can soak up a decent amount of damage when Challenged! One of his abilities even encourages you to Quest with Mufasa as much as you can; when you exert him to Quest, you ready all cards in your Inkwell.
Given how many cards it takes to pay for him to enter play in the first place, it’s fair to say that this is likely to give you a lot of resources to continue playing cards with!
His other ability is excellent too, albeit with a bit of a potential downside; when he enters play, Mufasa doesn’t just exert the Ink needed to pay for him, but also all other cards in your Inkwell. However, given that he costs 8 Ink, you’re unlikely to be losing out on many Ink cards, if any. The upside of this is ability is that you also retrieve two random cards from your Inkwell, which go straight into your hand. This is fantastic, particularly if you made the agonising decision to use a couple of powerful cards as Ink earlier in the game!
So, overall, both in terms of the card itself and its in-game utility, you can see why Mufasa is so sought after. If you prefer using a deck with Sapphire cards (check out our guide to Lorcana Ink Types for more details), it seems like a no-brainer to include Mufasa right now. Given that his non-Enchanted, standard card is also selling for around $40, you can see that this card is highly sought after, regardless of which version it is!
2. Prince Naveen, Ukulele Player – Enchanted Rare ($181)
The hapless idiot who gets himself transformed into a frog in animated movie, The Princess and the Frog, Prince Naveen previously appeared in the Lorcana set, Rise of the Floodborn, as a standard, Common card. With that card only worth pennies, what’s different about Prince Naveen in Shimmering Skies?
Well, of course there’s the fact that even the non-Enchanted version of Prince Naveen, Ukulele Player, is at the Legendary rarity level. So you’d expect a powerful card, and that’s exactly what you get!
Though only a 4 Ink cost character, with 3 Strength and 3 Willpower (plus 2 Lore), it’s in using Song cards that Prince Naveen becomes very useful indeed. Not only can you play a cost 6 (or less) Song for free when you play him, but he also counts as a 6 cost character for playing other Song cards too, thanks to his Singer 6 keyword.
The Enchanted version of Prince Naveen is currently selling for around $181, with the standard variant at $38. Which is pretty impressive, especially when you consider what a useless, comedic character the Prince is within the story of The Princess and the Frog!
3. Snow White, Fair Hearted – Enchanted Rare ($173)
In a very close second place, we have Snow White, Fair Hearted; as is the case with every other card on this list, it’s her Enchanted Rare variant that’s proving to be the most valuable, with a current average selling price of $173.
In a very stark contrast between Snow White and Mufasa, her standard variant can be purchased for less than $1, which would suggest that the Enchanted card’s value is based on its aesthetics alone, not its usefulness (or otherwise) in-game. So what can Snow White, Fair Hearted offer to players, rather than just collectors?
First up, it’s notable that Snow White costs just 5 Ink to play; like Mufasa, this isn’t a card that you’re allowed to play in your Inkwell as a source of Ink, however. A Steel type card, Snow White has 3 Strength and 5 Willpower, with 3 points of Lore gained while Questing too.
Her true value comes from her ability, however, which relies on you having other Knight cards in play; for each other Knight you’ve managed to get onto the table, Snow White gains Resist -1. That means she reduces any damage being dealt to her by 1 point per Knight you have on your side, which surely means we’re going to see some Knight-focused decks in the meta, taking advantage of this excellent ability. If that’s the case, you can expect this card to rise in value, even in its standard form!
4. Clarabelle, Light On Her Hooves – Enchanted Rare ($143)
Though you may not be familiar with Clarabelle Cow, her animated history goes back to Mickey Mouse’s very first appearance, which was in the silent, short cartoon, Plane Crazy. Appearing alongside the much more popular central character, Clara is the very first character to appear (albeit from the rear!) and she even got to ride one of the planes (in a manner of speaking!) that Mickey builds in the short!
Though she was initially an actual cow, Clarabelle has since been anthropomorphised, as you can see from this card. Given that most Lorcana fans are not likely to be aware of Clarabell’s history, what’s contributed to the Enchanted version of Clarabelle currently selling for $143 on average?
Though she has a cost of 7 Ink, Clarabelle is a Floodborn character, which means that she has the Shift keyword, allowing her to be played directly on top of another Clarabelle card, for a reduced cost (in a manner reminiscent of how evolving works in Pokemon). If you use Shift in that way, Clarabelle will only cost 5 Ink to play.
Though she only has 2 Lore points, she does have a very respectable 5 Strength and 6 Willpower, along with a very useful ability, which allows you to draw until you have the same number of cards in your hand that a chosen opponent does.
With a current average selling price of around $18 even for her standard variant, it’s clear that Clarabelle has quickly become a favourite with Disney Lorcana players!
5. Robin Hood, Sharpshooter – Enchanted Rare ($130)
Though never the most popular or fondly remembered of Disney movies, their animated, 1973 version of the legend is referenced more than you’d expect in plenty of Disney games, Lorcana included. The anthropomorphic cast of characters pop up everywhere, and here’s another example, with the vulpine Robin Hood making an appearance on the list of the most valuable Shimmering Skies cards!
Of course, it’s the Enchanted Rare that fans want to get their hands on, with this variant selling for an average of $130. With his standard version also selling for around $14 on average, this is a card that’s clearly sought after, regardless of which version it is.
So why is that the case? With a reasonably low Ink cost of 4 (and no option to use it in your Inkwell, as is the case with several cards on this list!), it’s easy enough to get Robin Hood into play. His stats are pretty underwhelming, however, with just 1 Strength and 4 Willpower; to add to the feeling that this card is pretty mediocre, you’ll see that it has just 2 Lore points when Questing too.
Yet look beyond that first glance and you’ll find something pretty cool in Robin Hood’s ability, which triggers when he Quests. You’re able to look at the top 4 cards of your deck and play an Action card (with a cost of 6 or less) for free. Though this does mean discarding the other cards you reveal, there are numerous ways this can pay off, especially as you’re going to play a card that’d normally cost up to 6 Ink for absolutely nothing (well, except the cost of losing the other three cards you draw, of course!).
6. Scar, Vengeful Lion – Enchanted Rare ($107)
A 4 Ink cost, Emerald type character, Scar, Vengeful Lion’s Enchanted Rare variant features a gorgeously green hued illustration of the power hungry big cat. With a current average selling price of $107, aside from the fact that this Enchanted card has the usual incredible art and spectacular, textured foil treatment, what does it offer for players looking to utilise Scar in-game?
From a stats point of view, he’s not particularly impressive. 4 Strength and just 2 Willpower, along with only 1 point of Lore, are what you’ll find on Scar. He does, however, have the Ward keyword, which means that he cannot be targeted by the effect of any action or card ability, if it allows a player to choose a character to damage, banish or affect in any way.
Not only that, but if you have Scar in play, whenever one of your characters Challenges a damaged character, you can draw a card. Given that this isn’t a once per turn passive ability, it’s very possible to rack up multiple card draws by having Scar on your side!
Interestingly, his standard, Rare version is very cheap, selling for way under $1, so if you want to get multiple Scar cards on your side, and really stack those card draws, it’s most certainly affordable to do so.
7. You’re Welcome – Enchanted Rare ($107)
Featuring the boastful, big-headed (though heroic) deity Maui, as featured in the film Moana, this is a Song card that costs 4 Ink and uses the Emerald Ink type.
You’re Welcome can be played for free, however, if you’re able to exert a character with an Ink cost of 4 or more. So, what does it do, exactly? Well, when you play You’re Welcome, you can shuffle a chosen character, item or location back into a player’s deck; that player then draws 2 cards.
Of course, you can play this on yourself to get a damaged character out of play, to potentially return later. Or rid yourself of a problematic card on your opponent’s side! It’s pretty flexible, especially as its ability covers multiple card types.
The Enchanted Rare version of You’re Welcome is currently selling for an average of $107, though its standard version, which sits at the Uncommon rarity level, is a snip at just $0.19 on average. We’re expecting to see this pop up in plenty of Emerald decks now that Shimmering Skies is in the hands of players, at least in its Uncommon form!
8. Vanellope Von Schweetz, Sugar Rush Princess – Enchanted Rare ($104)
Spoiler alert: glitching racer Vanellope Von Schweetz, one of the characters available to select in Mario Kart-esque video game Sugar Rush (which features as a major plot point in the brilliant CGI animated movie, Wreck-It Ralph), is actually a princess!
It’s Vanellope, restored to her rightful state after her code is tampered with by a jealous video game character, that we have here on this card, which rounds out the list of the most valuable Shimmering Skies cards. Shimmering Skies features lots of characters and settings from Wreck-It Ralph, making their debut in Disney Lorcana.
An Amber type Floodborn character, Vanellope normally costs 4 Ink to play, but using Shift, she’ll only cost 2. Though she only has 2 Strength and 4 Willpower, plus 2 points of Lore, she has a similar bonus to Snow White, in that she makes use of a specific subtype to bolster your cards.
In the case of Vanellope, she reduces the Strength of all opposing characters by 1, for one turn, every time you play another Princess character. Timed right, that can be a massive game changer! Though this card costs $104 on average, other Vanellope cards can be found for pennies, so you can make use of the Shift mechanic, and get yourself a cheaper version of this card, without breaking the bank!
9. Donald Duck, Pie Slinger – Enchanted Rare ($100)
It’s a testament to the brilliant card design and artwork of Lorcana that we’ve managed to get so far down this list without a proper, OG Disney icon like Donald Duck making an appearance on the list of the most valuable cards from Shimmering Skies. Sure, we have Snow White, who hailed from the first ever feature length, cel-animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but it’s not as if Disney created Snow White themselves!
The Donald Duck Enchanted card from Shimmering Skies is currently selling for an average price of $100, with its standard, Legendary variant selling for less than $5. It’s a great looking card in its Enchanted form, but how does it perform in-game?
A Ruby card with a 5 Ink cost, Donald Duck is also a Floodborn character, so he can be Shifted into play for just 4 Ink. There’s a pretty cool ability tied into using Shift to bring Donald Duck into play too; if you do use Shift to do so, your opponent (or opponents) have 2 Lore points removed!
Though he only generates 1 point of Lore himself, along with 3 Strength and 6 Willpower, he has an ability that makes him an absolute powerhouse of a card. If any opponent has at least 10 Lore points, Donald Duck adds 6 to his Strength value, giving him 9 Strength overall. It’s a fantastic card, and given that you can buy the non-Enchanted version for under $5, it feels like it’s worth building a Ruby deck just to test him out!
10. Arthur, King Victorious – Enchanted Rare ($95)
Disney’s 60s retelling of the King Arthur legend, The Sword in the Stone, is the source for this particular card. Arthur, King Victorious is a Steel type Floodborn card; that means it has the Shift keyword, so it can be played for less than its usual, 7 Ink cost.
If Shifted, Arthur will only cost 5 Ink to play, and it’s worth getting to the table. With 3 Strength and 6 Willpower, along with 3 points of Lore, it’s certainly no slouch just on those raw stats alone. However, it’s in Arthur’s ability that he truly shines: when played, he can give a chosen character Challenger +2 and Resist +2 (that means they get +2 Strength while Challenging and a reduction of 2 damage that’s being dealt to them), plus they can also challenge Ready, not Exerted, characters on the same turn too.
So that $95 current selling price on average is definitely understandable, especially when you factor in the usual, high standard of card art. If you want to add Arthur to your Steel type deck but can’t stretch the budget to getting the Enchanted version, you’re in luck; the standard Legendary variant is only around $5!
