Not content with just taking Magic: The Gathering (MTG) to the world of Fallout, into murder mystery territory at a foreboding manor house, or into a fantastical plane that resembles a supernatural version of the Wild West, Wizards of the Coast are taking players even further into the multiverse in 2024.
Bloomburrow is set in Valley home to animals who yearn for adventure, as well as those who’d rather live a quiet and tranquil life in the forests and meadows of their world.
As the first Plane of the multiverse that’s been revealed to be populated only by animals (you’ll find no humans here!), there’s a cosy whimsy to Bloomburrow’s card art, even when danger is right around the corner.
So what will MTG players find roaming through the lush environments of Bloomburrow’s world?
Let’s take a look, as we check out the MTG Bloomburrow card list.
Table of Contents
ToggleBloomburrow Card List
Unlike the Weird West Antics covered in Outlaws of Thunder Junction, Bloomburrow has just one set code, with cards bearing the BLB code in the bottom left being the way to identify cards from the expansion.
Along with the anthropomorphic animals featured above, which see a Mouse Soldier, Otter Rogue and Rabbit Soldier springing into action, a more traditionally quadrupedal bear also features.
That’s the fearsome looking Lumra, Bellow of the Woods; with MTG’s teasing the struggle for balance in Bloomburrow between heroes and ‘calamity beasts’, it’s not hard to tell that Lumra can be categorised as the latter!
What Special Cards Can Be Found In Bloomburrow Play Boosters?
As is the case with any MTG set, there are numerous card treatments and art types that are unique to Bloomburrow; many of which can be pulled from the set’s Play Boosters.
Though only a small number of cards have been revealed so far, as you can see from the list above, several different treatments and styles of both Lumra, Bellow of the Woods and Mabel, Heir to Cragflame, have been shown, along with special, full art Land cards.
The Showcase Woodland cards, as seen in the example of the Mabel, Heir to Cragflame card below, bring an enchanting, storybook style to the set, befitting the subject matter, characters and settings of Bloomburrow.
There’s also other Showcase Borderless art cards, such as the Lumra, Bellow of the Woods, by renowned Japanese artist Mitsuhiro Arita, below.
With the calamity beasts providing dangerous opposition to the brave animalfolk of Bloomburrow’s world, the heroes will need every tool available to bring them down.
So naturally, they need to study the calamity beasts for any weaknesses; you can see the fruits of their work with the Borderless Showcase Field Notes cards; again, using a Lumra, Bellow of the Woods card as an example below!
There will also be amazing, full art Seasonal Land cards, with Summer and Winter cards shown below.
As you can see, these cards show the same scene in different seasons, with both being Mountain cards, despite having a very different colour scheme. It’ll be very interesting to see how other Land types are represented by the changing seasons in the world of Bloomburrow.
Are Any Bloomburrow Cards Exclusive To Collector Boosters?
Of course, Collector Boosters will be available for Bloomburrow, and given their cost and desirability for MTG fans looking for the most spectacular card treatments, there will be exclusive variants in these packs.
One example is the Borderless Anime card variant of Mabel, Heir to Cragflame shown above; this has a raised foil treatment to give it an ultra premium, textured feel in addition to its gorgeous art.
What Other Products Will Be Available For The Bloomburrow Set?
Given that Bloomburrow feels like a more accessible set than, say, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, it stands to reason that it’ll be getting its own dedicated Starter Kit, which will help players learn how to play with two pre-constructed, full 60 card MTG decks (and useful accessories too!).
Each deck has its own featured, Mythic Rare card that uses specific mana colours that the decks are based around: the Green and White Byrke, Long Ear of the Law and Blue/Red Bria, Riptide Rogue cards, as shown below.
Both Byrke, Long Ear of the Law and Bria, Riptide Rogue will appear as traditional foil treated cards in the Starter Kit.
Four set-themed Commander Decks will also be available when Bloomburrow is released; these will be as follows: Animated Army (Red-Green), Family Matters (Blue-Red-White), Peace Offering (Green-White-Blue) and Squirreled Away (Black-Green).
When Will Bloomburrow Be Available?
Due to launch on August 2nd, Bloomburrow’s pre-release events will take place the week beforehand, from July 26th to August 1st.
You can find your local pre-release events, where you’ll get to open boosters, get hold of a special Spindown Life Counter, promo card and deck box, as well as participate in casual tournaments and potentially win more promo cards and booster packs, by checking out the official MTG event locator here.
