The third set for Riftbound is Unleashed/ The set introduces “XP”, a very video game-esque mechanic. Of course, with Riftbound being based in the universe of multiplayer PC title League of Legends, this makes perfect sense. How does XP work in Riftbound though? Let’s take a look.

ToggleWhat Does XP Do in Riftbound?

In Riftbound, each point of XP you gain gives you a Level. You can track XP however you want, but there is an XP Tracker token card included in the Unleashed set. You can use beads, counters or dice to count your XP points using this card to hold them. Certain cards will give you bonuses when you reach certain levels, and you may even be able to spend XP to use special card abilities. So XP has multiple uses, as you’ll soon see; it’s a very flexible and powerful new mechanic!
How Do You Gain XP in Riftbound?

The above Mosstomper card is a good example of the ways in which you can gain XP. With this card, you can use the new Hunt keyword to gather XP. So whenever you conquer or hold a battlefield with Mosstomper, you gain 2 XP. Mosstomper gains new abilities when you are at Level 3 (which means having 3 XP), and you don’t have to spend or otherwise remove XP to use this ability.
How Do You Spend XP in Riftbound?

Another example of gaining XP can be found on the above Kha’Zix card. When you win a combat with Kha’Zix, Voidreaver as your Legend, you gain XP. This card also allows you to spend XP, which means removing it from your XP pool (perhaps from your XP Tracker card, if you’re using one). There are two options available on this card for spending XP; you can spend 1 or 2, depending on which action you want to take.
So that’s everything you need to know about XP in Riftbound, which debuts in the third set, Unleashed. While you’re here, why not check out our other Riftbound content?
