The Japanese anime series, Gundam, began way back in 1979, with Mobile Suit Gundam. Since then, the mech-based action has been the basis of tens of TV shows, movies, manga, books, video games and tabletop games, as well as accounting for a frankly astonishing 90% of the Japanese plastic-model market alone (thanks Wikipedia!). Though not the first TCG to be based on Gundam, Bandai’s Gundam Card Game looks like it’s going to be truly bringing the epic action to the tabletop, with beautiful card art, accessible gameplay and even the option of using miniature mechs to intimidate your opponent with!
What’s more, you can now learn to play the game ahead of release, using the official Teaching App. The app is available via your web browser, as well as the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store for Android devices.

Over a series of easy to understand lessons, you’ll learn all of the rules for the Gundam Card Game. If you’re already familiar with how to play the One Piece Card Game, many of the concepts and mechanics in the Gundam Card Game will be recognizable; for example, the Gundam Resource deck is broadly the same thing as the DON!! deck in One Piece.
However, there are mechanics in Gundam that make it feel highly thematic, such as the option to adding pilots to mechs, bestowing bonuses and new abilities on them. It’s all very accessible and easy to learn, and the Teaching App is a great way to get a head start with the Gundam Card Game before the physical cards arrive in stores!

The Gundam Card Game‘s first set, Newtype Rising, is due to be released on July 25th, 2025. Starter Decks are arriving a few weeks prior, on July 11th, 2025; these will be available as card-only decks or premium sets which include three unpainted, unassembled miniatures. Two examples of the miniatures, painted and assembled, can be seen in the above image.
We’ll have more updates on the Gundam Card Game soon, so watch this space! In the meantime, check out our coverage of other Bandai games, such as our picks for the best Digimon starter decks, or our guide to the different foil card types in One Piece!
