New Lorcana Sets Revealed: Archazia’s Island and Reign of Jafar

Lorcana Set 7 and 8 Key Art, Logos

The names of the next two sets for Disney Lorcana have been announced, with the news emerging from the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game European Championship, held at the Disneyland Paris Resort from the 6th to the 8th of December. What do we know about the new sets so far? Let’s take a look!

First up is Archazia’s Island, which is due to be released in March 2025. The set’s artwork reveals that Bolt, the superhero dog from the film of the same name, will be appearing in Disney Lorcana for the first time. Given his armored appearance, it’s almost certainly the case that this won’t be the only version of Bolt we’ll see, with a Storyborn version of the character sure to appear too.

He won’t be the only four-legged friend to appear in the set either, as the intriguing description for the set states that Archazia’s Island is a place “…where friendly pets abound! Beyond the cast of cuddly critters lies an ancient secret, just waiting to be discovered.”

Could “pet” be a new character classification? Though we’ve seen pets in the game before, perhaps most notably with the dogs from 101 Dalmatians (many of which had their own classification keyword: puppy), it’s a great opportunity for new mechanics to be introduced, specifically to take advantage of what is sure to be a large number of new animal companions!

Beyond this detail, nothing is known about the Archazia’s Island set, but we’ll no doubt see further information revealed in early 2025.

Given that there’s not even a month specified for the release of Disney Lorcana’s newly revealed eighth set, Reign of Jafar (it’s due for launch in the second quarter of 2025), you may be forgiven for thinking that we’d not be able to give much in the way of details as to what the set may bring to the game.

However, the set’s single revealed piece of artwork, and its title, gives us quite a bit of tantalizing information. For one thing, it’s the fourth set in the second cycle of Disney Lorcana releases, and seems to be following the same pattern as the first four sets.

That is to say that, Disney Lorcana‘s fourth set, Ursula’s Return, was based around the emergence of the Sea Witch as the story’s big villain; Reign of Jafar looks to be pulling the same narrative trick, albeit with Aladdin’s nemesis as the main evil character.

Given that Ursula’s Return was also accompanied by the Illumineer’s Quest: Deep Trouble box set, which allowed for solo and cooperative play against the Sea Witch herself, could we see a similar package arriving with Reign of Jafar? As we can see in the artwork, he seems to be wearing the Hexwell Crown, which was split in half at the conclusion of Ursula’s Return (if you happened to beat the Sea Witch in Deep Trouble, at least), so that’s a fairly safe bet!

Clues have also been coming together from previous sets; take a look at the Half Hexwell Crown card (shown on the left in the image above), that you’ll reveal as part of the Deep Trouble set, if you’re victorious against Ursula. Compare that to the location of Jafar, on the right hand card in the image above, as well as the fact that he is actually holding the Half Hexwell Crown!

It doesn’t stop there though. The flavor text on Jafar’s card, which is from the Azurite Sea set, states the following: “The broken crown’s power is formidable, but not enough. With both halves of the Hexwell Crown, I could rule all of Lorcana!”

It’s very satisfying to see the plans of Lorcana‘s team coming together in this way, with the seeds for the eighth set having been sown at least as far back as Ursula’s Return.

Of course, little else is known at this stage, but what we do know is very intriguing, especially as we’re able to make such educated guesses about what’s next for Disney Lorcana.
