Unique Pikachu With Grey Felt Hat Promo Card Up For Grabs At Van Gogh Museum

Pokemon Van Gogh Collaboration

Just earlier this month, the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam announced an exciting ‘Pokemon Van Gogh Museum Collaboration’ that piqued all of our interests. And now, a unique Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card card has been added into the mix!

The duo shared a really fun teaser video featuring Eevee and Pikachu in a field full of Sunflora à la Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflower Field’.

There was also an art piece shared of the same Sunflora in the style of Van Gogh’s work, giving us an idea of what to expect in the exhibit.

Needless to say, we were very interested in seeing more, and we hoped it wouldn’t cost us a plane ticket to Amsterdam to get a peek at more of the unique Pokemon + Van Gogh mashup art.

Well, the Van Gogh Museum did not disappoint, as they just launched a new webpage for the exhibition with new images and details.

Located on the Permanent collection Floor 1 of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will be the main Pokemon exhibition we’ve been waiting for.

“Take a look at Pikachu with a grey felt hat, Snorlax deep asleep, or Sunflora peeking through Sunflowers in Van Gogh inspired Pokémon paintings.”

Though it’s not yet confirmed if these are actual paintings done by contemporary masters, it could be that they’ll be digital artworks, printed and framed.

We highly suspect, however, given the prestige of the Van Gogh Museum, that we could see them being real paint on real canvas.

The museum is also offering a bunch of fun activities for adults and children, including Pokemon art classes and a special Pikachu trading card, as a reward for completing a special art hunt. More on that below!

This exciting new exhibit runs from September 28th 2023 until January 7th 2024.

Of course, one of the most exciting parts of any new Pokemon collaboration will be the fun new products available.

Thankfully, the Van Gogh Museum is well aware that we’re showing up with our wallets wide open.

So it makes sense that they’re coming in hot with the must-have Pikachu + Van Gogh mashup artwork on t-shirts, totes, sketchbooks – and even incredible new plushies, along with vinyl figures.

There is even an exclusive Pikachu trading card – which pays close homage to Van Gogh’s ‘Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat’ painting – that will be available only at this showing.

As you can see from the image above, it’s a unique card that functions as a sort of pacifist Pokemon. Instead of damaging your opponent’s HP, this Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat card uses its power to search for a different Pikachu card to be put on its owner’s Bench.

As you can see from the X post above, there have also been some epic card sleeves released based on the Van Gogh x Pokemon pictures displayed in the museum.

As 90s kids, our collector senses are starting to tingle… and our bank cards are booking tickets to Amsterdam as I write this article.

Naturally, this is incredibly exciting for us here at CardGamer.com – and as you may expect, we’re going to do everything in our power to get our hands on these cards and sleeves.

In recent years, the Pokemon TCG has really upped its game with the art on its cards; just check out our list of all Trainer Gallery Pokemon Cards to see some genuinely incredible examples of Pokemon card artwork.

Naturally, they’ve also found ways to enhance art too, in a much more contemporary fashion. Check out our holo vs reverse holo guide to see how special even ‘standard’ art Pokemon cards can be.

So, though this collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum may seem slightly leftfield, the mashup art from the two entities coming together actually makes a lot of sense!

It’s worth noting that the Van Gogh Museum website has been experiencing some technical issues following this announcement, which is more than likely due to the excitement and attention it’s received after the unique collaboration with Pokemon was announced.

No doubt the initial excitement will subside, but we’re certain that the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will soon be seeing a spike in visitors from all around the globe, keen to get their hands on the unique Pokemon merchandise – and that special Pikachu card too!
