Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic Set Launching November 17th

Though announced and released earlier in the year in Japan, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic Set has now been confirmed for a Western release.

Set to launch on November 17th, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic is a spectacular set that’s sure to generate huge interest among Pokemon TCG fans old and new.

Yet it seems to have already sold out, mere hours after being announced.

So what’s the fuss about – and what is the Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic anyway?

Let’s find out!

What Is The Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic?

Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic - Cards and Board

The Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic is a set of three decks, with each 60 card deck featuring one of the iconic starter Pokemon from the original Game Boy games, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue: Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur.

It’s not just new versions of classic cards, however.

Included are six new cards – Suicune ex, Lugia ex, and Ho-Oh ex, for example – which are making their first appearance in this set.

Each deck has its own deck box for storing the cards, as well as sleeves to protect the 180 cards in the set.

It’s worth noting that the cards included – Energy cards aside – aren’t tournament legal, which does limit their usage somewhat.

They are, however, all foil cards and showcase some of the most beloved cards from the Pokemon Trading Game’s long history.

Perhaps most exciting, however, is the folding plastic game board, with a toolbox case that holds the various, stackable damage and status markers.

The toolbox itself also functions as a randomiser, so when called upon to flip a coin, players instead roll a metal ball into the case – if the ball lands in a white bordered hole, that counts as heads; a black bordered hole is tails.

It’s an incredibly impressive, cleverly designed and undeniably unique collectors item.

How Much Does The Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic Cost?

Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic - Open

All of this innovation and accessorising comes at a surprisingly high cost, with this beautifully designed set priced at an eye-watering $399.99!

Despite this high cost – and the limit of 1 per customer imposed at the Pokemon Center, where it was made available to pre-order – the set sold out almost immediately.

It’s not unfathomable to imagine that, unfortunately, these will have been sold to people intending to sell them on for much higher than the recommended retail price.

In fact, at the time of writing there are already multiple listings with the price set in the region of £2,000!

There’s never been an official product quite like this before – and we may not see anything like it again either.

So this is sure to become a bit of a status symbol among die hard Pokemon Trading Card Game fans, given its unusual nature and scarcity!
