UniVersus Card Game Reveals Star Trek, Godzilla and Tekken Sets

Star Trek, Godzilla, Tekken 8 UniVersus

Since the Universal Fighting System was rebranded as UniVersus in 2021, publisher UVS Games have taken the game into a number of popular universes.

Though primarily focused on adapting My Hero Academia into collectable card game form for the first few years of UniVersus, UVS Games have now taken players on adventures alongside the casts of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun Stampede and Yu Yu Hakusho, with several more exciting sets planned for the game.

Though it’s exciting enough that fans of these anime and manga franchises can battle it out across the tabletop using the unique UniVersus system, which allows for cross compatibility with all sets, regardless of the series or era the character or setting is from, there’s still more on the horizon.

Live action role play series Critical Role and Attack on Titan are on their way, alongside further expansion of the UniVersus game’s flagship My Hero Academia line.

Godzilla Challenger Series decks are on the way too; though previously announced, the release date of June 21st has now been set and players have been treated to a sneak peek at the decks and cards for this kaiju-themed set.

Along with this came the announcement of two entirely new franchises for UniVersus: Star Trek and Tekken 8.

Though it’s far too early for images of either set, UVS have confirmed that their Star Trek UniVersus set will feature the comedic take on the series, Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Additionally, UVS are teaming with Wise Wizard Games to create a Star Trek-themed version of one of my favourite deckbuilding games ever, Star Realms (which is at the top of my best 2 player card games list!).

Interestingly, the Star Trek Star Realms game will be standalone, but also compatible with all existing Star Realms cards!

Though the Star Trek: Lower Decks set doesn’t have any release date announced as of yet, Star Trek Star Realms is due in the third quarter of 2024.

Finally, the UniVersus game goes back to its fighting game roots, with a set based on Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8.

Some of the earliest UniVersus sets (though it was then known as UFS) featured games such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and DarkStalkers; an example of a UFS card, featuring Chun Li from Street Fighter 2, is below.

Though again, no product images or release date have yet emerged, we know that the cards will feature characters from the most recent game in the long running Tekken series.

We will of course be on hand with further details as and when they are revealed; in the meantime, keep an eye on the upcoming UniVersus sets article, which we will continue to update.
