Since debuting in 2007 as the face and voice of a music software package, Japanese virtual idol Hatsune Miku has seen her popularity grow worldwide. Despite being an entirely digital creation, with users creating and sharing music featuring the idol via the internet, Hatsune Miku ‘performs’ at live concerts, thanks to clever use of projection technology to give fans a thrilling experience, bringing the character into the real world!
Given the enduring popularity of Hatsune Miku, along with how many Japanese-influenced cards and settings have been appearing in Magic: The Gathering in recent years (for example, anime-inspired cards, and the cyberpunk plane of Kamigawa), it’s perhaps not surprising that the idol will be appearing in a Secret Lair Super Drop in 2024, named Secret Lair X Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar.

As you can see from the above, the six cards in the MTG Hatsune Miku card list for the Secret Lair drop are as follows:
- Shelter
- Miku’s Spark
- Harmonize
- Miku, Lost but Singing
- Miku, the Renowned
- Inspiring Vantage
Though none are mechanically unique, which means that each of these cards have been previously available with different artwork, a few have had their name’s changed to fit with the Hatsune Miku theme.
So for example, Miku’s Spark reprints Chandra’s Ignition, Miku, Lost but Singing is a reprint of Azusa, Lost but Singing and Miku, the Renowned repurposes Feather, the Redeemed.
What Is Secret Lair?
If, like many people, you’re either a casual Magic: The Gathering player or you’re new to MTG, discovering it because you’re a Hatsune Miku fan, you may not be aware of what Secret Lair actually is.
To summarise, Secret Lair started in 2019, as a way to bring unique, alternate art versions of cards to collectors and fans of franchises or styles that existed outside of the norm for MTG.
Pre-orders for Secret Lair cards are live for a set period, with a specific release date also made known when pre-orders become available.
Once the pre-order period finishes, Wizards of the Coast print only as many sets of cards as have been ordered in advance.
This allows for some really interesting experiments, as cards will fully sell out of whatever volumes the market demands; there’ve been Secret Lair cards featuring amazing Tomb Raider art, cards featuring the forgotten animated adaptation of Lord of the Rings and much, much more.
When Will The Hatsune Miku Cards Be Available?
The six cards in the Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar drop will be available as part of the Spring Superdrop 2024, which will be live for pre-orders from May 13th until June 2nd.
You can sign up to be notified when the pre-orders go live at the official Wizards of the Coast website here.
If you are interested in these cards, do make sure that you pre-order them; they won’t be available once the pre-orders close, and Secret Lair cards can become extremely valuable once they get into the hands of players and collectors!
