Though the Homeworlds set has just been released for Star Wars Unlimited, we now have a good look at the Icons 2027 Edition set too. Icons is a set that’s designed to ease beginners into the game, with the Icons Starter Box providing a starting point. Then, Icons booster packs give players the chance to build up their collection and engage in full deckbuilding, without overly complex cards included. It’s a gateway to playing Star Wars Unlimited which quickly engages and teaches new, or returning, players in a way that slowly layers on new elements as they go. Let’s take a look at the cards revealed for Icons 2027 Edition so far.

What Can Players Expect From the Icons Starter Box?
The Icons Starter Box works in much the same way as the earlier Intro Battle: Hoth set, or Magic: The Gathering’s Foundations Beginner Box. Speaking of MTG Foundations, Icons as a whole performs pretty much the same function for Star Wars Unlimited, as Foundations does for Magic: The Gathering. It’s a fully expandable set, complete with booster packs, with cards that are designed to be easy to use for newcomers, with a straightforward learning process built in.
The Icons Starter Box has playmats for each player, as you can see below, with useful rules reminders for your first few games. Each player’s deck will only be 30 cards for the first game, but there are extra packs to open, with cards to add to each deck, after each game you play.
This helps players to learn by playing, adding new elements after every game played. After the three introductory games, there’s a final deckbuilding booster pack for each player to open. This encourages players to take their first steps into creating and customizing their own deck, using what they’ve learned by playing three games to do so.
Then there are two standard Icons 2027 Edition booster packs to open. As standard boosters, these cards are random rather than fixed, giving players more exciting possibilities to add to their decks!
When Will Icons 2027 Edition Be Released?
The release date for Star Wars Unlimited’s Icons 2027 Edition set is November 20th, 2026. The reason it’s called Icons 2027 is that it’s intended to be an annual release, available throughout the coming year. We’re looking forward to seeing this help the audience for Star Wars Unlimited grow to more casual fans with little or no experience of TCGs!
